The slaying of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin has jolted the American public from its apathy, and there is righteous public outrage from coast to coast.
Martin's death at the hands of a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla., has become a national issue that has drawn comment from President Obama and other national leaders. In California, state lawmakers Thursday donned hoodies to demand justice in the case.
Much closer to home, Oakland residents have held rallies to demand action in the Florida case, which has raised multiple troubling issues, including the question of whether Martin was deemed "suspicious" by his shooter because he was an African American youth wearing a hoodie. The admitted shooter, George Zimmerman, is a white Hispanic.
Meanwhile, Lakisha Hill of Hayward wondered if anyone will speak up for her boy.
Charles Hill III, 16, was gunned down in East Oakland after an argument outside a party one week ago. He is one of 28 homicide victims in Oakland this year.
Lakisha Hill, his mother, was one of several people who have lost a son to violence in Oakland and contacted Marilyn Washington Harris, seeking answers, comfort and support. Harris began an antiviolence foundation soon after the death of her own son, Khadafy, in 2000.

What does that mean? Do you remove the magazine? What about the round in the chamber? Are you aware that some pistols will fire without a magazine?

This is odd behavior. Why not walk on the sidewalk or street?
The only explanation (for me) is that someone had informed him that the neighborhood (closed gated community) was peppered with security cameras, thus he'd be less visible if he ducked in and out of doorways, plus the hoodie would offer some means of concealing his identity.
Girl friend said it was because it was raining. However, the young man walking dog and others indicated heavy rain did not start untill after fight started.
Z reported him standing and staring at him (twice) Once with his hand in his belt.
I've never noticed my neighborhood's "hoodie wearing" population ducking in and out of doorways when it's raining. They'd be carrying umbrellas instead.
As an aside, I'm hearing a helicopter hovering nearby. I wonder what's going on.
Pull the hood up and head on home. None are so sweet they’d melt in the rain.

When they heard the name George Zimmerman of Florida the Left immediately thought they had an eighty year old retired Jewish Democrat accountant originally from Queens New York. They thought maybe George Zimmerman was a runaway from the Democrat’s Jewish plantation (Bob Dylan’s real name is Zimmerman after all) who had gone NRA gun toting Republican TEA partier on them.
They were wrong. George Zimmerman is a 28 year old self identified brown skinned Hispanic Democrat who they wish was an NRA member. He tutors Black children in his home and is not a TEA partier.
They looked at the picture of Trayvon Martin and fooled themselves into believing he was an angelic youth headed for Harvard someday. Instead they got a budding thug who had a series of scrapes with authorities that included possession of burglary tools and drug possession.
They thought they could find evidence that Zimmerman was on top of Martin punching him and calling him the “N” word. Instead they have an eye witness backing up Zimmerman’s claim of self defense and the “N” charge is just a dream.
They thought his neighbors would tell reporters Zimmerman hated Blacks. Instead they have a Black character witness for Zimmerman and his Black friends and family.
They thought they would have a White Police Chief who would kiss their feet to keep peace – and his job. They lost that on day two. They now have Black Chief so that angle is gone.
They thought they would have two justifiably shell shocked parents who would do whatever they were told. Instead they got a pair of opportunists who have even less shame than would be Puppet Masters Sharpton and Jackson. They have copyrighted their son’s name and quit their jobs to promote the sale of “Trayvon” merchandise.
They thought they could bring in the Black Panthers to scare White people then go away. Instead they got the Panthers putting a bounty on Zimmerman and threatening to burn down Detroit.
They thought Zimmerman would be living in a “Lilly White” gated fortress that screamed “Minorities keep out.” Instead they got a community that is more than half non White.
They thought they could get Black celebrities to jump in and add strength and lust to their circus of lies. Instead they got a dimwitted Spike Lee tweeting a wrong address for the lynch mob to descend upon ,and Lee is now on his way to a nasty losing lawsuit.
They thought they could get a bunch of Black high school kids to peacefully march to protest what had happened to “Brother Trayvon.” What they got was a pack of wilding animals who ransacked a Walgreens after their march.
Now they are all so eager to wear hoodies to show they are “down for the struggle.” Do you want to bet the hoodies end up being made in non union sweatshops in some third world country?

I don’t know why we’re all supposed to believe a smaller guy couldn’t make a big guy fear for his life. Anyone that’s ever watched an Angelina Jolie movie knows even a little skinny woman can go ninja and take down a whole crowd of big fellers faster than a cow can lick’er lips.
As you posted, the facts as presently known are too complex.
Will this cause a rift between Hispanics and Blacks in the Democratic party?
Will Whites and Hispanics see themselves as targets by liberals, whether in gun control or as victims of “thug“ culture.(I don't believe Martin was a thug per se, but I do believe he, like millions of suburban white kids that buy rap music, are enthralled with it, are wannabe “pseudo-thugs’)
There are many variables that could play out in the upcoming elections and, IMHO, the Democrats are running scared hence their hysteria .....

This had to be 25 years ago, in Brooklyn. Some guy was going to the laundromat on a Saturday morning, all he had was the bag of laundry and his “laundry money”. How much did he have? A roll of quarters? And some other guy (I suppose a guy, although I doubt his killer was ever caught) shot him dead for it. OK, it was a bad neighborhood, but it was broad daylight and the man was going to do his laundry for crying out loud!
Sorry Rev. Al, Pres Obama, et al. black americans are not under assault by white americans, you are under assault from yourselves. I suggest you do some “soul searching” about that and then maybe get motivated and take some action too.
And I really don’t know who they think they are fooling. I don’t know if they are fooling black people, but they sure as heck aren’t fooling white people. Not even the biggest NYC libs I’ve known in my life buy this cr*p. Maybe professional lib pols and pundits, and maybe some occupy dopes, but nobody else buys this, we all know it is a big, fat lie.
