For Congress, the potential impact-short-and long-term-of an Israeli decision regarding Iran and its implementation is a critical issue of concern.

This report assesses this issue, focusing primarily on the decision that might be made by the government of Israel. In particular it examines the range of factors that could influence such an Israeli decision.

KEYWORDS: iran; israel; nuclear
This report, just released, is a comprehensive discussion of all the political and military aspects of a possible Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.

The tactical realities of such a strike are fully documented and thorough. Much new analysis is offered, particularly of the operational capabilities of the Israeli Air Force.

Good reading, particularly page 25 on.

What amazes me is the number of people, even FReepers, who know nothing of Sept 6, 2007.

Israel will strike when and where it wants, and zero will get a 3am call right AFTER it happens.

From mad Russians that their anti-air radar customers got overran again.

Hey. There never was a nuclear facility in Syria there. As you can see by these pictures...... See?

Indeed. I, too, am surprised by the fact so few people know of the strike.

How can so many people pontificate as to what MIGHT happen with no knowledge of what DID happen?

The strike changed the political reality of the ME but you never hear it referenced or even recognized.

The paper references the Syrian strike numerous times; use ctl-f to search for ‘Syria’ in the document. There is a paragraph of why W wasn’t warned in advance.

This paper makes the mistake of thinking the Israelis will strike Iran in the same way they took out Iraq's nuclear facility in 1981 and Syria's in 2007. This is flawed. Why risk the IAF when you can do it much more simply?

Load the torpedo tubes of Israel's three Dolphin-class SSKs with special weapon-tipped SLCMs. The Dolphin boats are equipped with six 533mm (21-inch) torpedo tubes and four 650mm (25.5-inch) TT. The 650mm tubes would likely hold the encapsulated Popeye Turbo that has a launch sequence similar to the USN UGM-109 Tomahawk SLCM. Whether a Dolphin could carry reloads for its 650mm tubes is not known, but analysts say the Dolphins can carry up to 16 torpedoes and SLCM. Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolphin_class_submarine

To do a first strike on Iran, use a combination of Jericho 3 ICBMs and Popeye Turbo “special’ SLCMs. First, takeout Iranian C3I (command, control, communication, intelligence) with high altitude EMP strikes, then hit the Iranian nuclear plants and their uranium mines with special weapons. Here's the hit list:
1. Manufacturing sites (confirmed and suspected)
* Tehran
* Parchin
* Fordow
* Arak
* Qom
* Natanz
* Isfahan
* Bushehr
2. Uranium mines
* Saghand
* Gchine

Properly coordinated with a country wide defense exercise in Israel, the first strike on Iran would: (1) completely blind and neuter Iran's ability to communicate or coordinate retaliatory strikes, (2) eliminate the Iranian ability to pursue its nuclear lunacy for a long time, and (3) reduce Iran to a 7th century existence.

Other effects: the Arab world would be forced to understand the Israelis could return them to the 7th century in minutes to live in self-lighting, fused glass parking lots in the desert. Let's see if the Muslim world values life or annihilation more. After wiping out Iran, Israel should make it clear to the major players in the Muslim world they have the opportunity to chose life or extinction because Israel's appeasement policy is over. Israel will now exterminate its enemies instead. Choose wisely.

Due to Obama’s duplicity, my scenario becomes even more likely. Obama is trying to prevent an IAF strike like the Israelis used twice before (and very successfully). However, the SLCM and ICBM options are still Israel's to use and I'm thinking this option may be their trump card that Barry's people haven't considered.

If I were the Israeli PM and his cabinet, I'd be prepping the Jericho 3’s and getting the Dolphin boats ready and ready. Alternately, the Popeye Turbo “specials” could be fired from Israeli territory against Iranian targets, although that would put them at the outer limits of their 1,500 km range. The 1,500 km range is not a problem for the Jericho 3.
