Wind farm partnership has Evanston officials hopeful

Evanston officials hope that a partnership announced today among five Great Lakes states and several federal agencies could clear the murky regulatory waters that have made efforts to develop offshore wind farms on the Great Lakes difficult. Evanston began looking at such a project two years ago. “I think it’s terrific news, because I was told when I first started exploring wind turbines in the lake that no one would put them in the lake because there were no rules governing how to do it,” Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl said. “So I’m delighted that five states made this pact and are looking at it. It’s exactly what they should be doing.”

Offshore wind make sense economically as you can put up very large turbines (5MW or more) which are the equivalent of 5 typical land-based ones, and they can be located near population centers where the demand is.

And therein lies the rub, “not in my backyard” becomes “not where the will spoil my ocean view”. If there aren’t 5 lawsuits filed against the wind farm by the very same libs who want renewable energy in a years time, I’ll be amazed.

Soo.... what’s the wind level when the power demand is highest for this area ???

In southwest US, in the summer when demand is peak (air conditioning) there’s no wind, which is why it’s so hot !

These people can’t do anything other than spend other peoples money on their boondooggles that will never even break even. These things are totally unsustainable economically and one of many, many the reasons the economy does so badly.

If they build enough windfarms in Illinois, will it fly away?

“If they build enough windfarms in Illinois, will it fly away?”

We should make it promise to.

We'd better stop carrying ore on the Great Lakes. Wouldn't want one of these babies carrying 70,000 tons to run into a windmill -- the lights would go out. Who needs ore anyway? We can stop producing it the way we are stopping coal and oil production.

You want your AC to run when it’s hot outside? You are so selfish. Don’t you care about the Collective and Gaia?
