The recent killing of Trayvon Martin needs more investigation. But where's the outrage over the daily scourge of black-on-black crime?
By JUAN WILLIAMS The shooting death of Trayvon Martin in Florida has sparked national outrage, with civil rights leaders from San Francisco to Baltimore leading protests calling for a new investigation and the arrest of the shooter.
But what about all the other young black murder victims? Nationally, nearly half of all murder victims are black. And the overwhelming majority of those black people are killed by other black people. Where is the march for them?
Where is the march against the drug dealers who prey on young black people? Where is the march against bad schools, with their 50% dropout rate for black teenaged boys? Those failed schools are certainly guilty of creating the shameful 40% unemployment rate for black teens.
How about marching against the cable television shows constantly offering minstrel-show images of black youth as rappers and comedians who don't value education, dismiss the importance of marriage, and celebrate killing people, drug money and jailhouse fashion—the pants falling down because the jail guard has taken away the belt, the shoes untied because the warden removed the shoe laces, and accessories such as the drug dealer's pit bull.
Supposedly all of this is just entertainment and intended to co-opt the stereotypes. But it only ends up perpetuating stereotypes in white minds and, worse, having young black people internalize it as an authentic image of a proud black person.
There is no fashion, no thug attitude that should be an invitation to murder. But these are the real murderous forces surrounding the Martin death—and yet they never stir protests.

Good article although I take issue with:
"the responsibility for the Florida shooting lies with the individual who pulled the trigger".
Well what if he was attacked Juan?
Also "minstrel-show images of black youth" I thought was an absolutely brilliant line. That's exactly what it is.
Good start on Juan’s part. Now, where’s the outrage about the scourge of black on white crimes?

Nothing hurts Black America more than crime and fear for public and personal safety. No matter how you slice it, excuse it, blame it, whatever..........this is what concerns people the most . . of all races.

The rest of the observation would be, "And what about all of the white violent crime victims, and the fact that the astronomical percentage of interracial crime is black on white?"
No, that would be a little too much reality for Juan.

Hey Juan! How about just where is the outrage over all black committed crime?
I get so sick of “Black on Black” crime, like they want the blacks to stop killing each other and go kill others?

Well, I see this as Juan having the same inside-the-Beltway mindset as many ostensible conservatives who have said the same thing. So I don't know what his motivation is here - I'm inclined to think he shares the same distaste for self-defense concepts as many of his establishment brethern, as opposed to his taking a racial viewpoint like Sharpton. Because the rest of the article is spot-on.
And what will happen in response to this column? Why, the race pimps will once again call out Juan as an Uncle Tom. Even as a point Juan didn't make - that Trayvon had already eagerly started to embrace the thug mindset, as his pics and tweets indicate - completely vindicates the points Juan makes here.
If they were struggling over possession of the gun then it is entirely possible that Martin actually pulled the trigger.

By remaining silent, the people protesting this shooting accept the fact that Blacks kill more Blacks than any other race. Black drug use is ok because it’s a part of their culture. Same ok goes for unwed Black mothers and the Black Men that father those children.
Reparations aren’t going to fix the Black problem. White people aren’t going to fix the Black problem.
Juan Williams asks the salient question, "...where's the outrage over the daily scourge of black-on-black crime?" but only because he believes that it will make his path to "white-on-black" crime less difficult. There is nothing genuine about this man. His ideology is planted solidly on the left and, as far as race goes, he too is a race baiter, but a race baiter who's a bit more nimble at concealing his intent.
Yea, if I’m on my back with my head getting pounded into the concrete, yelling for help, when I shoot my perpetrator I really no longer need to yell, because the threat is neutralized.
He first got himself in trouble with the left when he wrote a critical article about Marion Barry. He almost got himself thrown out of the club.
It makes quite a statement that the weekend Jesse Jackson goes rushing to Florida for the Trayvon mess, 40 blacks were shot in Chicago. Fourteen were shot yesterday at a funeral in South Florida. Six were shot by two gunmen, in hoodies, in a Chicago mini-mart.
Tony Dungy (who I respect) weighed in on having to tell kids about how this type of thing can happen and they need to be careful. Tony’s son committed suicide. Obviously, it was not White trigger happy racists he needed to worry about.
Except that recent poor Asian immigrants had to send their kids to the same schools - and those kids largely went on to college.
It ain't the schools, it is the anti-educational attitude of thug culture. Any black kid who tries to do well is accused of being an Oreo or of acting white.
But 'acting white' is how you get ahead in life in this country.
