Suspected insurgents staged the most deadly co-ordinated attacks in years in Thailand's restive south, killing 14 people and wounding 340 with car bombs on Saturday.

The attacks targeted weekend shoppers and a high-rise hotel frequented by foreign tourists.

A first batch of explosives planted inside a parked pickup truck ripped through an area of restaurants and shops in a busy area of Yala city, a main commercial hub of Thailand's southern provinces, district police chief Col. Kritsada Kaewchandee said.

They’re just protesting the fact that Thailand hasn’t yet bowed to the will of Islaam. If they would, they’d have no problem.

Billions will die because no one will act now.

You sound just like Obiwan. And what does HE get for his troubles? Labeled as an insane military hating leftist.

You know, I'm starting to think the only solution is to fight fire with fire.

They detonate a car bomb, our side detonates a BUS BOMB, in one of their peaceful cities.

No military strike; no concern about "collateral damage"`.

To defeat monsters, you must become one.

A little background information from The Muslim Insurgency in Southern Thailand

Thailand has faced secessionist movements since it annexed the independent sultanate of Patani [Note: Thailand's annexed sultanate is spelled "Patani"; the country's southern province is spelled "Pattani"] in 1902, making the area the southernmost tip of the country.

A policy of forced assimilation enraged the ethnically Malay Muslims, who represent the majority in the region. Many of the region's Muslims adopted Thai names and the national language.

But local traditions were secretly cultivated, and between the 1940s and the 1980s separatists staged a series of opposition uprisings. The insurgency is largely confined to the three provinces of Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat and five districts of Songkhla province—Chana, Thepa, Na Thawi, Saba Yoi, and Sadao.

Funny how it always seems to be Muslims, though. If I have a kid who’s always getting into fights with other kids, and always has an explanation why his latest fight wasn’t his fault, I stop assuming that he’s a poor innocent in every case.
