Wooster Street is still pretty safe. I visit the area somewhat regularly. Modern Apizza on Grand is in a scarier section. A New Haven-style pizza restaurant finally opened in Chicago, so I no longer have to go 1,000 miles, deal with Sally’s crazy hours or lines.
I wouldn’t rule out very good pizza places in other areas (a transplanted NYer) supposedly opened a top notch place inPhoenix, of all places. Still, I think Sally’s coal fired oven that has been fired up for over 70 years gives the place a significant edge over any would be competitors.
