Obama needs a Supreme Court win on health care
Washington Post ^ | April 2, 2012 | By Ed Rogers

Posted on 04/02/2012 6:21:56 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

...President Obama needs distractions from the economy. But if health care goes down in defeat, Obama will have to defensively explain himself, or, worse, explain what he plans to do next. Obama doesn't do defeat very well, and part of his explanation would have to include admitting serious past mistakes. Otherwise, voters might rightly think he would try to reload the unpopular program, only tweaked in anticipation of court review. Remember, this was never a popular bill, and the methods used to pass it were a cynic's delight.

A defeat of Obamacare will offer further proof that after three years, there is little evidence that Obama is a team-builder or an effective manager. In fact, there is none. Obama as the answer to gridlock in Washington is a punch line, not an applause line.

Mitt Romney is poised to set a vivid contrast. He was governor in a state where it is very difficult for a Republican to win, much less effectively govern like he did. While private-equity businesses are much maligned, for them to be successful you must be able to work with a group of skeptical strangers, build teams and mutual trust quickly, make a new plan, identify talent and combine your efforts to ensure success. This is an infinitely more useful skill set than anything Obama did as an absentee state senator or as an inscrutable "community organizer."

A failure of Obamacare puts all of the weaknesses of the president and the contrast with Romney in vivid relief. Obama needs a win at the court; otherwise he is left with the unflattering question of why it was bungled and, even worse, with the question of "what next."

So, because Romney won in a state where it’s hard for a republican to get elected, the GOP-e decided he’s the one to defeat a muslim marxist from Kenya. At least two of those would be reasons for obama to lose. If the GOP-e would bother to use them.

It makes me sick. Run someone “like” a democrat and maybe we can win. This strategy hasn’t worked since GHW Bush.

What nobama “needs” is a conviction and time in Leavenworth.

No.

Rather America needs Obozo to suffer a devasting loss in the Supreme Court. If this doesn’t happen then the SC is corrupt and America has lost and will be equivalent to a third world nation within a decade or so.

This year marks America’s last chance and our lives depend on the unbalanced SC and the feckless America voter. We’ve been dealt a bad hand with Romney, because too many of us can read, write and reason. We know he is terribly flawed.

Obama already knows the outcome, whatever it is. You can be sure that Kagan pinged his Blackberry fifteen seconds after the vote was taken.

i disagree with the entire premise of the article clearly stated in the title: “Obama needs a Supreme Court win on Health Care”.

Obama’s political team has the political ability to use a Supreme Court defeat on Obamacare AGAINST Romney.

>>>>You can be sure that Kagan pinged his Blackberry<<<

That is a seriously insightful point.

We should be able to tell by his imperious/petulant campaign methods what the tip-off was.

Interesting. If so, we might be able to tell from the actions of the Obama campaign very shortly. If they start tailoring a message that takes account of the USSC striking down Obamacare, then we should be able to pickup on it.

OTOH, if we're talking about a June announcement they may just plan & wait. Swing into action the moment the announcement gets made.

It makes me suspicious. Biden said on a Sunday talk show that he thought the law would be found constitutional. Since the Supremes voted on Friday, I wonder if the results were leaked to the WH.

The WP and the rest of the MSM could create this boogeyman for Obama and then have it removed in June with a decision upholding the law. Given the political impact of this decision, I have a hard time believing that it can be kept secret until June.

I don’t really agree with the author’s premise. “Losing” obamacare will be what he runs on if it is defeated due to “hearless republicans. Its his ace-in-the-hole.

How can anyone "remember" something which the MSM took GREAT PAINS to ignore and cover-up? I know the MSM is made up of IDIOTS, but do they think we are as stupid as them?

“But if health care goes down in defeat, Obama will have to defensively explain himself”

Those mean Republicans in the House, those mean states and conservative justices on the SCOTUS are the reason YOU don’t have health insurance. Vote me in for another 4 years and we can overturn the Constitution completely by placing judges on the court who beleive in liberalislam. I can just hear it now.

What Obama needs is a fleet of spaceships from Alpha Centauri bringing magic lithium crystals to power his post-petroleum new age utopia!

The only trouble with green power is we have to kill off a large percentage of the existing population to adjust for the failure of the economy, food production, electricity and transportation that will result.

Maybe that’s the link between Obamacare and the war against oil. We need the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB - aka Death Panels) to adjust the population numbers to fit a world with no farming, flying, freedom or future.

I suspect it will be upheld. No one wants to be the person who voted down the first black president’s signature bill.

And the GOP seems to have given up on it.
