A proposed 200-mile, 150-mph rail line between remote-from-L.A. Victorville, Calif., and Las Vegas, Nev., would be a bullet train to and from nowhere. But what it's really about is delivering Nevada for the president's re-election.
Such trains worldwide need subsidies. This project seeks a low-interest, $4.9 billion loan from the Obama White House's Federal Railroad Administration. Ridership projections are fuzzy. And the project is rife with crony capitalism. The Associated Press reports backers include Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and:

That is a really fun drive.
Why do they need a 150 mph train between LV and LA when cars already travel close to that speed I-15. That has to be one of the most dangerous Interstates in the nation...

You asked and answered your own question. Who says that FReepers aren’t efficient!
And an easy drive.
The hard part is getting to Victorville from say, El Segundo.
From Victorville, it's cruise control and mountain vistas.
Plus free parking in Vegas. You get to go to the dam, Red Rock Park, speedway etc. whenever.
Plus save your childen 4.9 billion plus interest.
Victorville? Huh?
Why Victorville and not something that makes a little more sense, like say, L.A. Union Station?
As for high-speed rail, when the trains achieve speeds of 300 MPH+, at that point I’d be bit more interested. Ideally, 500 MPH.
I go into the DesertXpress boondoggle in my bio of Harry Reid. It is a payoff to his long time crook buddy Sig Rogich, who conveniently ran Republicans For Reid in exchange for Reid flipping support from MagLev to DesertXpress (which Rogich is behind).

Do you have two Freeper names?
Makes great economic sense to me. There must be at least 12 or 14 people a day demanding this type of service, and think what it would do to my Adelanto property values!
And with the taxpayer's luck, since ZERO is backing it, it might derail the first day - or go bankrupt!
This is a great idea and on the right route. Ontario to Barstow and Burbank to barstow and then 1 line to Vegas. Don’t need a car in Vegas.
No public funds except to approve right of ay and inspection.
Tell the hotel owners in Vegas and the mayor and gov of Nevada, let the hotels build it. $5 a night room tax and fund the entire project.
