Pageant Allows Transgender Contestant To Compete

NEW YORK (CNN) -- After initially disqualifying a transgender contestant, organizers of the Miss Universe beauty pageant have reversed course saying she can participate.

In a statement late Monday night, the Miss Universe Organization said Jenna Talackova can compete provided "she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions."

The statement, however, did not elaborate on what the requirements were.

The news came a day before Talackova was expected to hold a news conference with high-profile feminist lawyer Gloria Allred to talk about her experience.

Until now she hasn't spoken to reporters, and it was unclear whether the news conference Tuesday will proceed as planned.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD, commended the pageant organizer's decision Monday night.

"The Miss Universe Organization made the right decision and has taken an important first step," the group said in a statement.

I confess that I am “hetero-normative”, as the LGBT community might say. I prefer a pageant in which the girls were born girls, and were always girls. Something about the trans-whatever contestants doesn’t set well with me.

And at least for now, we are free to express such thoughts. Give it a few years, and what I just wrote could be a hate crime.

I think some "tucking" was necessary.

I refuse to even contemplate how they do that surgery. (I picture a big wood drill on a Dewalt cordless and my brain freezes up after that...)

If the only requirement is to look like a female, let's open up the contest to super-gorgeous fem robots.

Having XX chromosomes should be the deciding factor for sex (not "gender," a precious little Women's Studies word which means precious little outside of linguistic structuralism textbooks.

XX and ovaries.

Sorry, this person is NOT a she. He is a man who had his penis removed.

People will loose interest in these pageants if this continues. Straight folks just don’t want to watch.

-—LORD, PLEASE COME SOON!!-—

Amen.

I live in MA, and my teenage children have never lived in a time when marriage was only between a man and woman. Thank God we’ve been able to homeschool. The government schools are completely out of control. And there’s no logical endpoint.

True. The first step off the ledge, bridge, or any other precipice is always very important.

The “Miss” Universe organization has the right to do as they please and I have the right not to watch. Just one more TV show to scratch off my list.

Not a she...body has the bone structure of a man which is evident. And without makeup the appearance is telling.

No different than those who surgicially change their appearance to look like animals....they don’t...the human appearance remains obvious.

Ho hum, just one more reason to ignore this pageant.

No doubt this freak will be declared the winner, in the name of PC.

It’s been clear for many years that the results are not decided by anything remotely resembling the parameters stated in the contest name.

I heard that someone wanted “Dancing With The Stars” to allow same-sex couples.

Can you imagine the ratings if we see some gay celebrities such as Rosie O’Donnell? How many of you want to watch Rosie O’Donnell dancing with a girl on a show such as “Dancing With The Stars”? It could be in our future.

They put their toe in that water with Chaz Bono and I don’t think they liked the true advertiser response it got, as opposed to the PC BS they proclaimed afterword.

They put two homos up there, especially men, it will be the click heard round the world as the stations get changed, they must know that.

Plumbing doesn’t count. If you don’t have two X chromosomes you are not a girl. End of argument. Didn’t we go through this with the East German women’s swim team a few years ago?
