You may be thinking of Andrew Johnson, not Jackson.
You are thinking of Andrew Johnson. Lincoln’s second VP and successor. Jackson served forty years earlier. And the most recent example of a president defying the USSC was FDR. He failed but was in office long enough to alter the court to his liking through attrition and replacement of justices. That all being said, Obama’s remarks are another indication that he sees himself as a Caesar. If he did not have the mob behind him, as did Julius, it would be laughable and pathetic.
