Savage fears a repeat of Sen. John McCains failed 2008 presidential campaign.
Romney is already following the McCain playbook, which is that Obama is a good man, he just doesnt really quite get it, or he isnt up to the job, Savage said.
But as far as the essence of what I really believe in. The pride of a nation, etc. hes not there, said Savage.
Savage had dinner with Romney in 2010 and found him a likeable person, but Romney wont go on The Savage Nation radio show.
Savage thinks Romney simply doesnt understand America.
I believe hes part of the establishment, and the establishment has contempt for the average person, he said. They dont even understand who they are. They sneer at them, they look down upon them, and they follow their advisers suggestions without even understanding.
Bypassing the Founders
Savage said he never imagined someone like Obama coming along, but he noted that the Founding Fathers did.
The separation of powers built into the Constitution, he said, was designed to protect the nation from a dictatorship.
Savage pointed to Obamas broad use of executive orders to bypass Congress as a direct assault on the Founders separation doctrine.
White House Counsel Kathy Ruemmler explained Obamas use of executive powers to the Wall Street Journal in a story published Friday.
Many issues that he deals with are just on him, where the Congress doesnt bear the burden in the same way, Ruemmler said. Until one experiences that first hand, it is difficult to appreciate fully how you need flexibility in a lot of circumstances.
Savage said the quote stunned him, likening it to something one may have heard in Mussolinis Italy.
Thats all the evidence you need, he said.

Savage is a little late to the party.
If he wanted to make a difference then he should have gotten behind one of the other non=Romney candidates earlier in the race.
Showing up after it’s over and complaining about how we ened up with is pretty useless.
I tried my hardest for the last year to stop Romney, and was willing to support nearly anyone else to accomplish that goal.
That was the Nixon playbook for much of the 1960 campaign. Only when he was behind in the polls by about six points two and a half weeks before Election Day did Nixon finally take off the gloves. Though he still lost, it was a squeaker rather than the rout that some pundits had been predicting.
I despise much of Savage's manner and presentation, but I do have great respect for his perception and courage.
Savage despises any politician that wont come on his show. Cain and Palin were in that club. And even if they did what would it matter in the long run to someone as bi-polar as savage. In a one week time period I heard him go from screaming out loud that Bush should be impeached, to saying Bush is one of the greatest Presidents in his life time and the only hope for America.
Curious, if Newt is your pick (obvious from your tag line), why did he become such a bizarre player? Why the two more wives? Why the Pelosi alignment? Why join the “establishment” back in the 90s? Why the ethics violations found by a 4/4 Rep/Dem ethics committee that votes 7-1 to reprimand? Why does he run to do environmental junk? But, NOW, NOW he wants to be the poster boy for Conservatism and traditional values? It seems to me that Newt is now more unelectable that Romney (and I don’t particularly like Romney).
None of those things matters a hill of beans to me, Newt had the answers to fix what ails this nation, while Romney is just more of the same that got us to where we are.
Name any important person in American history and I could make a list of their failings and flaws. I don't expect my representatives to be Jesus Christ.
The difference between you and me is that I recognize that a man married three times (cheating as he goes) has identified himself as a man unable, unwilling, or deceitful about his ability to actually save us. His past is just as much an indicator of his future as you claim Romney’s to be.
I don’t like Romney. I don’t like Obama more. If Newt had not been such a slug and sold himself to various vices, he may have had more momentum now. But, the guy did not possess the foresight to see that his character, his behavior, his actions might someday sink him. Newt does not stand a chance with any “undecided”.
I repeat, if Romney is the nominee (ugh), who will you pull the lever for? Perot? Write in Newt? Bush? Those will all be votes for Obama.
nearly every American president has had a mistress at some point in their life.
google it.
You have no idea what I was getting at. The point was that Newt gave up his opportunity to rise to this occasion. The wider public no longer respects him. Part of it was his philandering, part of it was his sell out to the enviromentalists, part of it was his absence of ethics, part of it was his obnoxious arrogance. Compare his delivery to Reagan and you will see what I mean.
Now, if Romney gets the R nod (a guy I don't care for), you can go ahead and pull the lever for Newt so BO will be able to do "its on" for 4 more years.
