The victim was white. It is Orlando Sentinel policy to not use race of people we write about unless it is pertinent to the story, such as the description of suspects or in the case of the Sanford shooting when the family of the victim made it an issue. If investigators determine this is a hate crime, we will use the race. The Sheriff’s Office has withheld the name because he is on life-support and will likely not make it.
So I responded:
I asked the name, not the race but this response just tells me there is hyper attention to race as evidenced by the race baiters in this country turning the Sanford attack into a race issue.
What you’re saying is though, is it only takes the family to scream race before you’ll print it as such. I guess since white’s don’t typically scream race this gets tossed in the trash bin as just another garden variety death by two thugs for no other reason than ‘it was fun’.
This is truly a sad day in America.
