Romney picks up two wins in Republican race (Maryland and Washington, D.C called for Mitt)

Mitt Romney won contests in Maryland and Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to tighten his grip on the race for the Republican presidential nomination and looked to land a big blow on rival Rick Santorum with an expected victory in Wisconsin.

It was a strong start for the front-runner on a big day in the Republican search for a candidate to send against Democratic President Barack Obama in the November 6 election.

Television networks projected that the former Massachusetts Governor Romney was the easy winner over Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul in Maryland. NBC predicted Romney also won in the nation's capital.

All eyes were on Wisconsin, a Midwestern heartland state where Santorum had hoped to break Romney's momentum.

In a sign that Obama sees Romney as his chief obstacle to re-election, the president singled him out by name on Tuesday for backing a controversial Republican budget plan. Obama's sharp partisan tone, and Romney's swift and withering response, foreshadowed the campaign battles to come.

"He said that he's very supportive of this new budget and he even called it 'marvelous,' which is a word you don't often hear when it comes to describing a budget," Obama said in a speech.

Romney fired back that Obama was trying to deflect blame for high gasoline prices that are hitting American wallets hard and could make Obama's re-election tougher to achieve.

D.C. has less relevance to the Republicans than American Samoa and should get about as many delegates.

Trivia question: Barry Goldwater actually managed to get 14.5% of the DC vote in 1964. Who was the last Republican presidential candidate to exceed this total? Who was the last to crack 10%?

Mittens mainly only wins states that Rs won’t win in the general and loses in the states that we can win in the general. Again, the R establishment is showing its superior grasp of how to lose.

Romney has swept all three. Very depressing.

He can’t get above 43% except in states like Massachusetts and Maryland (and can’t break 50% even in Maryland).

If conservatives were divided among 3 candidates he’d not be the nominee.

Conservatives have done this to themselves.

Romney is trying to buy the presidency.

The people voting for him are no better than those that elected the liar we have in the WH now. He is just as arrogant as obama, and just as ignorant of conservatives beliefs.

Republican Candidates could improve their Primary vote count by campaigning with the following idea:

Due to the FHA, Fannie and Freddie Bankruptcies of September, 2008, American home owners lost 30 % of the value of their homes. That is a 30 % cut in just one month. Home values are still down 30 %.

Thus, let us cut the total compensation to all elected Federal politicians, and their staffs by 30 %, and an additional 10 % cut to elected Federal politicians each year until Federal Spending is LESS THAN the average of the previous 2 years of Federal income.

BTW, since slightly less than half of the US House, and 2/3 of the US Senate are Millionaires, it will be a great opportunity for Congress to lead by example that EVERYONE should give up their “fair” share of the American Dream.

What better way can there be to demonstrate that Federal politicians are on the same page as the voters?
