‘High speed’ rail is a boondoggle and the State SHOULD be spending money enhancing their regular speed rail system.

Nevertheless, that is not what was sold to the citizens adn that’s not what they voted for, so the whole thing should be scrapped if they cannot deliver to the citizens what was promised. What was promised was a stupid idea in the first place, even if costs and time projects worked out (which they don’t/won’t).

Return the ‘high speed’ tax monies and start over planning for regular speed rail projects, especially freight transport. Trucking is going to need to be supplemented far more with rail in the future.

Not to pick nits, but the State of California has no rail system. The Union Pacific, Burlington Norther, and lots of smaller railroads have rail systems in California. The future of these private companies should be no more controlled by the whim of government planners than should the future of any other private business.
