The perfect is the enemy of the good. Romney is certainly NOT to the left of Obama. Thus, if Romney is to the right of Obama on a single issue, you should be voting for him. You and those who think like you are guaranteeing the reelection of the most leftist president in history. I humbly request you “rethink” your position.

I respect and am considering the argument that now may not be the time to take on the GOP establishment.

But we are going to have to confront them sometime.
Can’t keep putting it off forever.

Welcome to Free Republic.

Indeed the perfect is the enemy of the good. The flaw in your reasoning is that Romney is “the good.” He’s not. Just being to the right of Obama on one issue is certainly not enough to qualify someone as earning my vote. And, frankly, given Romney’s “flexibility” on the issues how can anyone be certain where he actually is? Today he says one thing; tomorrow it may be different if the wind blows a different way. Romney wants the presidency in the worst way. Worst Way. He wants it enough to say whatever it takes to whomever he thinks he needs to say it. I will not vote for The Etch-A-Sketch Candidate.

I’m confident The Republican Establishment was certain that all us pesky conservatives would dutifully fall in line this election as we have for so many other, but I’m done with that. I _will_ _not_ vote against my convictions again.

It took me until I had the ballot in my hands to decide I whether I actually would vote for McCain. Even then it was not an easy thing to do. I’ve regretted it ever since. I won’t go there again. I’ve reached my line in the sand and I won’t cross it.

Some time ago I read a news article about a home invasion by a bunch of hoodlums. They held a mother and son at gun point and ordered the mother to perform oral sex on her son or have her and her son be killed. This disgusting scene is analogous to where conservatives find themselves. As I see it, the mother in the situation has to decide whether to jump in the pit with the scum and give in to their demands (and likely be killed anyway) or decide that no matter what she will do what she knows is right and live (or die) with the consequences.

For too long conservatives have chosen to “go along to get along,” and we’ve found out the hard way that compromising on principles with those who mean you harm only slows the harm. I’m done playing the game; I’m done ignoring my conscience under the justification that it will all turn out OK in the end. It hasn’t, and it won’t even if I go just a bit farther down this road.

For too long conservatives have said we’ll insist on a conservative candidate only to give in at the last moment on the grounds of party unity. We bought the line that if we don’t something horrible will happen. Where has it gotten us? Compassionate Conservatism. Medicare Part D. Campaign Finance Reform. Unionized Federal TSA. John McCain. And the latest disgrace: Mitt Romney who may or may not favor gay marriage, abortions, government mandated health insurance and who knows what else.

No, I will not vote for Romney.
