(Reuters) - An internal NBC News probe has determined a "seasoned" producer was to blame for a misleading clip of a 911 call that the network broadcast during its coverage of the Trayvon Martin shooting, according to two sources at the network.
NBC News brass interviewed more than half a dozen staffers during its investigation of the misleadingly edited 911 call placed by George Zimmerman just before he shot the unarmed Florida teenager, said the sources, one of whom is an executive at the network.
The clip aired on the network's flagship "Today" morning show last week.
The edit made it appear that Zimmerman immediately told police that Martin was black, when, in fact, the full tape reveals that the neighborhood watch captain only did so when responding to a question posed by a dispatcher.
There was no clear indication on Thursday of what, if any, disciplinary actions would be taken against the producer or other staff involved in the incident.

It is a little ironic that NBC can mean either “Natural Born Citizen” i.e. the “Birther Movement” or “Newly Born Communist” or “Not Believable Commentary” or well, whatever.
Wouldn’t it be great if NBC would actually focus on Obama’s NBC status for a few months without mocking people who really have inquiring minds?

If I had ever done this selective editing my editors would have hung my balls on the wall as a lesson to other reporters. They had integrity.
Today’s news media executives have no honor, integrity, professionalism, and common sense.

I think I’ll go out an burn my old press card, or frame it as a relic from a time when there was honor in journalism.

The modification was approved by a group of people to make the maximum impact for the headline news.

They could be sued into nonexistence by Zimmerman and his Judge Dad.
This might be very entertaining.
You are right, no intern modifies a video that will be aired on a major network without being seen and OK’d by superiors.
Objective reporting died. Advocacy journalism has taken over. On local stories the politicians have there media insiders they use to cover up for local corruption. Or they simply cant afford to lose connected local advertisers. The media as a watchdog is gone.

Unless the means of disseminating news/information is completely reinvented, we are pretty much toast as a country. I thought Steve Jobs could’ve pulled it off, but I’m not very optimistic now. Propoganda is too easy for the bad guys to spread and for the gullible to lap up.

I’m curious why no one is attacking the dispatcher who dared ask this controversial question?
OTOH, I’m glad this altering of the audio happened. Somewhat. Maybe it’ll wake up some people to not worship everything the media spews.
