Charles Manson, now 77, gets new chance at parole
Q13Fox.com ^ | 4:09 p.m. PDT, April 5, 2012 | Charles Manson, now 77, gets new chance at parole Shelby Grad and Andrew Blankstein

LOS ANGELES—

This post has been corrected. See the note below.

After 11 failed bids for freedom, notorious killer Charles Manson, now 77, is up for parole later this month. The parole board rejected his bid in 2007, saying Manson [For the record, 9:42 a.m. April 5: An earlier version of this post incorrectly gave the killer's last name as Mason.] "continues to pose an unreasonable danger to others and may still bring harm to anyone he would come in contact with."

Manson refused to participate in that hearing, describing himself as a "prisoner of the political system." He also declined to participate in any psychological evaluations in 2007.

Of course he looks good! No job related stress, 3 square meals every day, a well equipped gym and a well stocked prison library, no drugs or booze, heck yes that would help any one look good.

You bet, no financial worries, gets to read books, magazines all day, works out, no issues with taxes, bosses, payments...lol.

Charlie will probably out live most everyone in his generation.

Check this....Charlie looks way better than Vincent Bugliosi, the guy that prosecuted him...And the same age!

Charlie and Vincent were born on the same year!

Which one would you invite into your home? I’d like to meet Bugliosi so I could shake his hand and thank him.

The character/morals or visiting someone, had nothing to do with my comments.

My comment was Charlie and Vincent Bugliosi were born on the same year, yet Charlie looks a whole better than Vincent Bugliosi, and in fact most others who are near 80 years old.

Well I would probably look good for my age too if I got to spend the bulk of my adult life relaxing behind bars, getting three square meals a day, plenty of exercise, plenty of leisure time to read or watch TV and a solid 8+ hours of sleep every night.

Instead, I have spent the bulk of my adult life so far in the rat race in order to pay for my house and support my family. Getting up a 5am, working at least 10 hours a day and another 2-4 hours a day commuting. A good part of my weekends are consumed with chores around the house, yard work, etc. When I do get to take the occasional "vacation", it's rush here and rush there, keep the kids from fighting in the backseat, etc.

OK, so my life's not really as crappy as it sounds above but everything I've said is true and yes, it does age me a little faster then if I got to hang out in a prison yard all day without a worry or care in the world, knowing that all my basic needs would be taken care of for the rest of my life.

I agree SA.

But I find this rather stunning...Some of my neighbors are in the early 70s, and look nearly 20 years older than Charlie.

To be honest, Vincent Bugliosi looks nearly dead in comparison to Manson.

Yes, life if better on the outside, however, it's becoming inordinately clear, the stresses of living in today's America, are through the roof and heading straight up.

Both born the same year.

While it is true that Manson didn’t kill anyone at the Tate or Labianca residences, it was reported by witnesses that old Charlie did murder a few people out at Spawn ranch.

If memory serves me, Gary Hinman was killed by Charlie and buried in something like 7 different graves.

Manson didn’t kill Hinman, it was Bobby Beausoleil who stabbed Hinman to death.

Since Manson did not actually stab anyone or cut their throats, that makes him “not a nice man” and not bad enough to put to death?

Really?

Without his leadership it is possible that none of the others would have murdered anyone. I think he is the *most guilty of the entire group and the *most deserving of being put to death.

I was wrong on the name, but I do remember reading in Helter Skelter that the biker guy that helped Bugleosi (sp?) build a case against Manson said that Charlie had killed a Black Panther guy and some other guys at Spawn ranch.

I don’t think Manson is completely guiltless of murder. He’s got blood on his hands personally.

No, Manson did not kill a black panther.

It was a guy named Crowe, who Charlie thought was a BP, and Charlie only wounded the guy, but did not kill him with, I believe he shot Crowe with a .25, but did not kill him.

I’ll read Helter Skelter again. Last time was in 1978 when I was in high school. But I believe you’re wrong.

Manson did kill the black panther according to a witness and I remember reading that Manson also drove around in a dune buggy with a sword and used that sword to kill someone else. Another death attributed to Manson was of the hired hand at Spahn ranch, I think the guys name was Shorty. He was a witness to the Family’s evil and was going to serve as a witness so Manson killed him. It was his body that is supposed to be buried in 7 different graves because Manson cut him up with his sword.

Like I said, I read the book decades back, but I do remember a witness telling the DA that Manson did kill.
