Elizabeth Warren parrots Scott Brown on Twitter
By Howie Carr | Sunday, April 8, 2012 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

Is there an echo in the room?

It’s funny, I could have sworn I heard Sen. Scott Brown, but then the echo comes back, and it’s ... Granny Warren, his moonbat Democrat opponent from Oklahoma.

Welcome to the new world of social-media politics. All the candidates are tweeting their supporters, staying in touch moment to moment. Seems an easy enough concept to grasp, but Granny has apparently forgotten one of tweeting’s first rules.

You’re supposed to come up with your own material.

It was Barry Goldwater who offered voters a choice, not an echo. With her tweets, Granny is offering them an echo, not a choice.

Consider Scott’s tweet at 4:44 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, a picture of himself outside his campaign headquarters with his leashed dogs — “Taking Koda & Snuggles out for a walk on a nice spring afternoon in Southie.”

Exactly three hours and 13 minutes later, Granny tweeted this: “Bruce, Otis and I were happy to drop by tonight’s potluck at Campaign HQ. I hope everyone enjoyed the cookies!”

Forget the cookies. Check out the photo — where is Bruce (her husband) and more importantly, Otis (her dog)?

This is not to say that those who follow Granny on Twitter don’t know what Otis looks like. He made an appearance March 8, shortly after Sen. Brown posted this tweet: “Honored to be given the Legislative Leader award by the Humane Society. I will continue to protect wildlife in Mass.”

Twenty three minutes later, another echo was tweeted — a photo of Otis, who appears to be a Golden Retriever.

“Surf’s up at Fresh Pond! The wind was blowing early this morning and Otis dreamed about his Boogie Board.”

Granny comes across like a pointy-headed intellectual who can’t park a bicycle straight, as an old Southern Democrat used to say. But she is learning so much in this campaign about the folkways of the Little People. For instance, did you ever hear of this mid-winter event they seem to enjoy so much? It’s called ... the Super Bowl.

You’d think it was Harvard-Yale the way they carry on.

Super Bowl Sunday, 3:18 p.m., Scott tweeted a photo of himself giving the thumbs up to a statue draped with a Tom Brady [stats] jersey — “Today’s the big day. Let’s go @Patriots [team stats]!”

At 5:43 p.m., Little Miss Echo checked in: “I’m already on record: the Pats are going to spank the Giants today! It’s just a fact.” Oddly, no photograph. Probably the two Harvard Law profs were busy dressing for the opera, or perhaps a chamber-music concert. Maybe even Bruce realized that a tuxedo might not go over that well with the Bud Light-swilling hoi polloi.

Warren’s into sports about as much as Brown’s last opponent, Marsha Coakley. The Sooner senior citizen was asked last December if she could recall the two years the Red Sox [team stats] won the World Series in this century. She said 2004 and 2008.

Sorry, Professor, you get a 50 on the baseball exam.

Finally, St. Patrick’s Day. Here’s Scott, at 3:40 p.m. on March 15. The incumbent actually looks like he’s enjoying himself — “Looking forward to the big St. Patty’s parade in Southie on Sunday.”

Granny and Bruce checked in at 1:16 on Sunday, the 17th. Look at Granny and Bruce — how ill at ease they appear, like two Black and Tans in disguise, trying to sneak into an IRA meeting.

“Bruce and I would like to wish you a very happy St. Patrick’s Day!”

Yeah right. God save the Queen! Remember the Battle of the Boyne! Hey Granny, to quote Billy Bulger, “How long do you have to wear that coat to win the bet?”

Granny?

I like "Sooner senior citizen" better, but I doubt many in MA would get the reference.

The last I have him is the one before last ended by JoePa.

If the current one began with the end of Gary Carter on 2/23, Wallace isn’t in it, unless I missed the caller.

Indeed, nobody had Wallace in this last one (death pool).

btw for WRKO listeners: acc. to their sched. tomorrow WRKO bails out of Howie at 6:30 to carry the VERY exciting
Celtics pre-game show (WRKO only). Red Sox-Tor. are on WEEI
(both AM 850 and FM 93.7) so the Celts bounce over to 680.
You will see similar conflicts in the future, though with
Celts going into playoffs perhaps it’ll be the Sox regular
season being bumped to RKO.

I hate when this sh*t starts...one more reason for Howie to bolt.

Although, to where? I don't know. Although he does seem to be mentioning “Magic Radio” more and more these days.

I don’t know if he’d wind up on magic radio (XM/Sirius) unless maybe they could put him on a channel like Patriot,
nationwide. And of course only if they have room for him

(Mike Church, A. Wilkow, Beck, Hannity, Levin, Humphries)

Maybe more likely WTKK or WXKS but who knows

“Maybe more likely WTKK or WXKS but who knows.”

Right. I think back to Severin getting the boot because of his salary. Ordway took a big salary cut.

I hate to think/say it but Howie’s best $$$ deal might be staying with Entercom.

Yes and that could well happen...Greater Media gave multi-year deals to Severin, Eagan & Braude, and Graham
(Severin’s was to expire next yr I think). But low ratings plus the “controversy” gave them excuse to fire him. I don’t know if Greater would hire Howie or not for WTKK. And I still wonder if there’s some kind of deal where Howie automatically has to stay with Ent. if they _make him an offer_. What is Howie’s other option, letting the contract expire and then
fleeing (or does he even have that option).

Again by Sept. or Nov. we may know as it’s around then
that the “5 year prison term” expires. (Did Howie blow it last time by publicizing that he was going to move to TKK?
Should he have just let the contract expire and then
jump?)

It will be interesting to see what happens. For all the amount of bravado that Howie’s been displaying (comments, website, etc.), you’d have to think he’s got something lined up.

OTOH, if nothing else materializes, would he pull a Laquidara and have his own Internet-based show? Maybe the Herald could stream it?

I just don’t see Howie and Entercom staying together. I also don’t think the other stations are going to pay him. Unless he’s willing to take a “short” deal and sign off in a couple years?

I just hope he’s still in the air come election time. He can be very persuasive both here in getting Brown reelected and in NH in getting the state’s Electoral Votes in the GOP column.

Agreed—maybe he would re-up with Ent. for half decent money and a short term deal, if the other offers aren’t worth it. He could stream, yes, or maybe take his show to sat. radio as I said. And I do hope also he’s on come election time.

When the “drama” happened in ‘07 he was off from around Sept 19 till Nov 19.

Agreed!

We need him on this election!!!

I didn’t have “the shakes” when Stern went to satellite, but if Howie went, I just might have to pony up the bucks to listen. It sucked royally when he was off for those ~2 months.

Crackdown on welfare fraud has enablers in a tizzy
By Howie Carr | Friday, April 13, 2012 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

The welfare-industrial complex is fighting back at the State House, trying to preserve their beloved fraud-ridden EBT program.

The gimme girls — and guys — and their so-called advocates are passing out fliers at the State House, headlined “Stop the Attack on Poor Families!” Surely they meant to say, “Stop the Attack on Convicted Drug Dealers!”

This sheet is being circulated on Beacon Hill by the usual underclass enablers — Coalition Against Poverty, Mass. Law Reform Institute, Coalition for Social Justice, etc. They’re very concerned about this “costly” bill.

Their theory seems to be, it’s much cheaper to let stores in Lynn keep selling crack cocaine to EBT card holders. It’s odd how the only time these leeches worry about the “cost” to taxpayers is when a crackdown on welfare fraud is being proposed.

Here’s one new EBT card proposal that drives them crazy: “Bar the use of EBT for cash in any state other than Massachusetts or a border state.”

Why? Because “prohibiting recipients from accessing their benefits out of state would violate the constitutional right to travel.”

Who knew? I believe the gimme girls are still free to leave the commonwealth whenever they want. But they don’t have a constitutional right to require working people to pay for their luxury world tours.

Here’s what drives the welfare-Cadillac crowd even crazier: “Require a photo ID on EBT cards. There is no evidence that a photo ID helps to prevent fraud.”

Isn’t the fact that these bottom-feeders are complaining so vociferously about photo IDs a clear sign they might work? And then the layabouts won’t be able to keep selling — I mean losing — 20,000 EBT cards a month with impunity.

It’s funny how no welfare recipients ever complain about the fact that if you work for a living, you routinely have to produce a photo ID to do anything from boarding an airliner to buying a beer.

The only place the moonbats have a problem producing a photo ID is when they’re asked for one before they vote or before they get a free tattoo with their welfare card.

I heard from a salesman the other day. He used to peddle a specialty steak product, vacuum packed, something like $6.99 for six ounces. It wasn’t selling well, except in one urban store.

“There’s a woman,” the manager explained, “with an EBT card. She can’t buy dog food with the card, so she buys your steak and feeds it to her dog.”

Do you buy steak for your dog? Of course not. You can’t afford to, you work for a living.
