White House thumbs nose at Grassley, Issa over F&F request(gunwalker)
Seattle Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 6 April, 2012 | Dave Workman

Posted on 04/08/2012 1:06:26 PM PDT by marktwain

President Barack Obama’s White House counsel has essentially told Congressman Darrell Issa and Senator Charles Grassley to “dream on” if they think a recent request to interview former National Security Staffer Kevin O’Reilly about Operation Fast and Furious is going to happen.

The Gun Rights Examiner has obtained a copy of an April 5 letter sent to Issa and Grassley by Kathryn Ruemmler, counsel to the president. In the letter, she tells them:

Over six months ago, the White House produced documents responsive to your prior request for communications between Mr. O’Reilly and ATF agent William Newell that relate to “Operation Fast and Furious” or any ATF gun trafficking cases in Phoenix, AZ. At the time we produced these documents, you had already received many of those same documents from the Department of Justice. And what was true then remains true today: none of these limited communications between Mr. O’Reilly and Mr. Newell revealed the existence of any of the inappropriate investigative tactics at issue in your inquiry, let alone any decision to allow guns to “walk.”

Issa and Grassley, as this column reported, want to speak to O’Reilly – now assigned to a job in Iraq – about what he may have known and when he knew it, regarding Fast and Furious. Newell was forced to acknowledge that he had had some communications with O’Reilly that mentioned Fast and Furious when he testified before Issa’s House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform last July, which this column discussed.

Newell’s responses to questions from Issa and his fellow committee members became so frustrating that Issa called him the “paid non-answerer.”

Ruemmler’s letter to Issa and Grassley may aggravate that frustration. A Capitol Hill staffer noted to this column:

The power of the MSM writ large for all to see. If a scandal meets MSM approval, it is not a scandal, no matter how high the piles of bodies are.

If a "scandal" meets their approval, then it is an earth shattering "scandal" no matter how insignificant the event, and how many lies they have to tell.

If the Obama Administration refuses to comply and there are no consequences, it just fuels their drive to make the legislative and judicial branches subservient to them. Each victory on their part moves the line further over toward a soft dictatorship.

It is about time that people remind this corrupt adminstration they are not above the law.

Someone needs to take that thumb and turn it back on them.

OK. Perhaps it is time for Issa and Grassley to undertake a "Fact Finding" trip to Iraq.

It would be interesting to see where little bammy's crew moves O’Reilly to when Issa and company go wheels up...

I was thinking along the same lines - we know Zero is determined to ignore any non-liberal congresscritters completely - but he simply cannot ignore the Judicial Branch.

Our founding fathers anticipated such scenarios and created a form of government that is uniquely designed to be dictatorproof; Zero’s administration is about to get schooled.

The WH has thumbed its nose to the American people from the beginning and will continue to do so because it knows that Congress does not have the backbone to challenge it.

And it would probably be more effective, he would not have the entire White Hut Staff coaching his answers.

Your statement may be true in some of the U.S. But I don’t think so here where I live.

Mr. Perry made a statement today that the Fed. Gov. was at War with Texas and something about South Carolina also. If you think Texas will be subjected by the end of the year, think again. Will not happen.....

"...time to go to Iraq with a federal judge and put him under oath."

Probably a death sentence for Mr. O'Reilly.
But I've known a bunch of retired JAG officers who'd be perfect for the job.

When will he get schooled. So far he gets away with doing whatever he wants. He ignores laws, judges and subpeonas. Things the rest of us would be thrown in jail for. I completely understand why he continues—because he can.

Your assessment is completely correct.

Our entire system is based upon a presumption of virtue -- that people will be honest and live up to their contract, that people will tell the truth (as opposed to committing perjury) and that governmnent officials, in particular, will comply with the law.

This administration is not inclined to do that.

It is therefore incumbent on the other branches of government to rein them in. Which isn't easy -- given the separation of powers.

Clinton got away with a lot -- and hge was impeached (though not convicted). Obama is getting away with even more.

In the end, only one branch of government can bring malfeasance to a halt -- the voters.

Simple. Grassley and Issa should issue a warrant for the communist’s arrest and force his testimony under penally of indefinite imprisonment. He will then have to wait 9 months for an Obama pardon.

“Simple. Grassley and Issa should issue a warrant for the communist’s arrest and force his testimony under penally of indefinite imprisonment.”

Grassley is a benign old fart without a stitch of power to do anything but mouth off. Issa, on the other hand has considerable power, which he pi$$es away through the use of his pie hole rather than his power to compel action. They are typical of the RINOs we have elected. As the truckers say, they are all horn and no drive shaft!
