He appeals to the same demographic who find Bill O’Reilly appealing. Huckabee won’t last long up against Rush.

Few people remember how Limbaugh built his popularity in the first place: he was both very funny and very snarling, in a cutting edge manner. He did not mince words, but spoke from crystal clear conservatism.

Leftists lost their marbles. Eventually, even he decided he had to tone it down a bit, such as when irate feminists (”Feminazis”), called in to scream and shriek at him, he would play the recorded sound of a vacuum cleaner, and say that he had “aborted” their call.

Then, with the Contract With America, anti-Bill Clinton sweep, he felt he had to tone it down even further, as it could have been counterproductive. Unfortunately, this half turned him into a Republican party platform mouthpiece.

Only when the party leadership went full RINO “moderate” did he finally return to more core conservatism. A very good thing.

But Huckabee really doesn’t have much a chance. He is vying for the “weak-conservative moderate Republicans who call themselves conservatives” listeners, and there really aren’t that many of them. Nor are they very dedicated to listening to radio shows.

And this shows another huge advantage to Limbaugh: a LOT of his listeners are working people, at work. That is a huge demographic, and they listen to the same radio station all day long. Or at least for shows they like.

Huckabee is seriously creepy. Nothing more dangerous than a mushy, squishy moderate Republican, well other than any Democrat.

Huckabee is working for the wrong media. He needs to move over to NBC where staging the news is accepted behavior.

What a doofus!!!!

At least Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte is what it is advertised to be. This call proves Huck can't even be what he is supposed to be.

Every caller into his show should announce, "This is not a staged call."

Regards,

TS

“Huckabee has a very strong social conservative following. Same group of people who are voting for Santorum in this primary cycle.”

Sadly, this same group of people wants to make America a “Christian Nation” in a way that the Founders NEVER intended! They are all in favor of social programs and governmental interference in THEIR pet peeve project and don’t understand that they are as much of a problem on the right as liberal Democrats are on the left. Examples of this are George Bush’s No Child Left Behind and his creation of the The Office of Faith Based Initiatives, both of which expanded Federal reach into what should be private, community based programs.

Nowhere in the Bible or in the Constitution is the government supposed to be involved in matters of private morality or private charity and we are bankrupting the country by insisting on a nanny state! I am a strong conservative Christian and I cannot stand Mike “Do as I say, Not as I do” Huckabee. This stunt doesn’t surprise me in the least! The Huckster is all about promoting himself and honesty or ethics take a back seat...but those on the Right will excuse him because he’s such a “good man”.

God save us and our country from all these good men who want to control every aspect of our lives because they think they know so much better than we what we need!

When I see that picture I am always reminded of the Adams Family...they look like the descendants of Uncle Fester.

Odds are so few people are listening at this point that the call volume would be far too low to keep him on the air without the fakes.

Heard a local sports talk guy once who inexplicably was scheduled to do his show on July 4. He got precisely 2 calls in 4 hours...both of them cranks. The rest of the time he was running his mouth like an outboard motor to fill time.

I don’t think the goal here is so much to go after Rush Limbaugh’s audience but rather to recreate what Focus on the Family used to be, with an explicitly political edge that caused problems for the 501(c)3 nonprofit status of Christian radio stations.

Personally I think there’s an audience for both and I think expanding the audience of conservative talk radio is a good thing.

It looks in that photo that ‘Mom’ has a quite a grip on the dogs neck.

Might be the dog is worried about that hungry looking group tossing him in the ‘squirrel popper’ ( Popcorn popper Huckster claimed to fry squirrels in) for supper.

I've tried listening to something other than Rush if Rush is on a boring topic or something, or not there that day. I tried Dennis Prager, whose writing I really like; but his show is kind of dull. I don't see anybody being as entertaining and to-the-point as El Rushbo. There may be a place for Huck, but it's not Rush's place.

Some to go that route. But for others, it's more about repealing Roe v. Wade, DADT, and keeping marriage what is has been since the dawn of time. Allowing the left to normalize homosexuality via "gay marriage" has led to li'l kids being taught how normal and special it is to be gay. To a great extent, a Christian conservative wants the government out of the morality business.

You are using a RINO as an example. Bush also believes Islam is a "religion of peace"; and I think he said "we all worship the same God" and other new-age nonsense.

The unintended consequence of the left gaining ground on "normalizing immorality" is that we have become a nation of sissies or effeminate males. The cultural norm in Hollywood is to portray masculine men as Neanderthals and idiots.

Early lifeHuckabee was born in Hope, Arkansas,[12] to Mae (née Elder; 1925–1999) and Dorsey Wiles Huckabee (1923–1996), conservative Southern Democrats. He has cited his working-class upbringing as the reason for his de-centralized populist conservative political views;[13] his father worked as a fireman and mechanic, and his mother worked as a clerk at a gas company.[14]

His first job, at 14, was working at a radio station where he read the news and weather.[15] He was elected Governor of Arkansas by his chapter of the American Legion-sponsored Boys State program in 1972[12] and is a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation alumnus. He was student council vice president at Hope High School during the 1971–72 school year. He was student council president at Hope High School during the 1972–1973 school year.[16] He has one sister, Mrs. Pat Harris, a middle school teacher.[17]

Huckabee married his wife Janet on May 25, 1974.[17] He graduated magna cum laude from Ouachita Baptist University, completing his bachelor’s degree in Religion in 2½ years before attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He dropped out of the seminary after one year in order to take a job in Christian broadcasting.[18][19][20]

My all time fav first time caller to a new talk radio show was when Mario Cuomo started his short-lived career behind the mike. Caller was so excited, enthused, said “I’m just so happy you are on talk radio, this is so exciting,” yada yada. Mario thanked him, appreciating his enthusiasm and support. The caller then said, “yeah, it means you’re no longer governor of New York.” Talk about priceless!
