Rick Santorum Suspends His Historic Presidential Campaign, Begins Next Chapter
Catholic Online ^ | 4/10/12 | keith A Fournier

...At 2:22 p.m. the candidate stepped up to the microphone at the platform in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and announced that he was suspending his 2012 presidential campaign. To his right stood his loving and dedicated wife Karen - and her expression said it all. She is an extraordinary woman, a lawyer, NICU Nurse, author, mother and Rick's best friend. However, she is also a woman who shows her heart. Surrounding them both were several of their beautiful children.

Rick Santorum recounted the story of Good Friday in the Santorum home. He called it a "Passion Play of sorts". Their little three year old daughter Bella was hospitalized. She has Trisomy 18 and is a living miracle. She has also won the hearts of millions during this campaign. Her little smile and serene presence fills you with joy when you are with her. She is the little princess in that wonderful family. She is also one of the greatest witnesses to the beauty and dignity of every human life I have met.

Like millions, I rejoiced when I received word that on Monday night that Bella had been released and was back home. However, the Senator acknowledged that the latest experience had caused he and his wife to think seriously about the direction they needed to take. They spent Easter weekend in prayer and reflection. They made the decision to suspend his Presidential campaign around the kitchen table.

It was the same kitchen table where they made the decision to enter the race. They did so he said because they knew they wanted their children - all of America's children - to inherit a Nation filled with the promise that made America great. They knew that dream was threatened. So, they began what he called the "improbable run" of this campaign...

I agree. Why is Santorum’s campaign “historic”?

Most recently he has supported fetal stem cell research. In one of the debates, he stated that he believes that life begins at successful implantation, rather than conception (despite science, and Catholic Church doctrine). He did not advocate creating life for the purpose of experimentation, but he did support using embryos leftover from IVF (i.e., “snowflake babies”).

I am with you - I keep seeing McCain too and have lost my motivation and enthusiasm as well. I refuse to turn on the TV at all, and I almost never watch anyway (I am a reader).

Romney = McCain = Barack Obama.

The RINO and fiscal socialist was in the race solely to help Romney win by splitting the anti-Romney vote. Shame on all his followers who are all so gullible that all it takes to sway them into supporting a socialist is a speech on condoms laced with enough references to the Bible or Jesus.

This is confusing, it’s Newt’s personal opinion not the Truth.
Life begins at conception. Check the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Huckabee, the Sequel.

Texas was polling heavily for Santorum, for many of the reasons you cite. I wonder how that primary will go now.

He prayed about it

So is the God that told him to stay in when the race was still open the same one that told him to get out after helping Mittster secure the nomination?

Just wondering...

Rick got out to save his political capital. Typical strategy. To ask for help to pay off his campaign debts-he didn't want to spend his kids college funds and go into personal debt to fight on.

Now, he can save face in the event Romney beats him in PA.

Be truthful. Rick thought that he could be the one guy who people would follow behind since so many distrust Romney. Rick was not the conservative who could get that job done. He called Mitt first to say that he was leaving the race- what does that say!!! Mitt!! It looks like we will be stuck with no reforms since voters are following the media and giving in.

How can Newt say this, it’s not from God. How is Newt for
life if he doesn’t even recognize when life begins?

I looked up one of the verses in Scripture to confirm, it’s
been revealed.

Psalm 51:7
For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me.

We are given a body and soul at conception. If Newt would
correct his error, it would help him.

p.s. It’s Psalm 50 in the Douay-Rheims Bible.

Rick was not the conservative who could get that job done.

So who is the conservative who can get it done - Newt with his 136 delegates, or Ron Paul with his 51?

What a load.

Hi Mary....

It is sad day.

I knew he had an appointment with Dobson this afternoon.....I wondered if that was significant.

God bless James Dobson and God bless Rick Santorum and his beautiful family.

And may God have mercy on our country.

... ABO
now let’s stop the primaries and focus on “ABO” !!!
we’ve got 30 weeks or less in which to do just that.
i love Newt, but i’m a realist.
if Romney is it, then i’m for him 100%.
I just want “ABo” — that is my hope for change, ABo.

Begone, Mittbot!

The remaining states left to vote have 1,053 delegates.

States with 1,233 delegates have voted so far.

If Newt and Rick combine their delegates, they need 732 more to win.

Romney needs 488 more to win.

So Newt and Rick only need 244 more delegates than Romney does to win.

Keep in mind Romney has almost never won over 50% of the vote in the states he’s won. This is a VERY different race now and many of the remaining states (shown below) look favorable to conservatives.

At the VERY least we should work hard to make Romney spend effort getting the nomination. We don’t want the GOP to think it’s going to be easy to cram this kind of disgusting fake and fraud down our throats the next time.

Missouri
New York
Pennsylvania
Connecticut
Rhode Island
Delaware
North Carolina
Indiana
West Virginia
Nebraska
Oregon
Kentucky
Arkansas
Texas
California
New Jersey
South Dakota
Montana
New Mexico
Utah

Hey, some of us think the country is worth fighting for, where we can.

We’ve got a convention coming, not a coronation.

Just because I don’t throw in doesn’t mean you aren’t free to board the first train any time you wish.
