EDITORIAL: Holder’s Black Panther blind spot

Justice Department ignores black-on-white crime

What is it about the Justice Department and the Black Panthers? On March 24, Mikhail Muhammad, leader of the New Black Panther Party, offered a $10,000 bounty for the “capture” of George Zimmerman, who shot and killed Trayvon Martin. The Panthers distributed wanted posters, calling him a “child killer” and offering the bounty “dead or alive.” Muhammad warned that Mr. Zimmerman “should be fearful for his life.”

These acts were almost certainly criminal. Florida Code 787.01 makes it a felony to threaten someone or abduct them with the intent to terrorize. Florida Code 777.04 further criminalizes solicitation which “commands, encourages, hires or requests another person” to engage in criminal activity such as kidnapping. Solicitation to kidnap is also a federal crime, and the fact that this was unambiguously racially-based brings it within the purview of federal hate-crime laws.

There is an important moral dimension at play as well. This scandal offers an opportunity for the Obama administration to show it can act impartially and calm racial tensions. So far, the White House has failed to lead on the issue. President Obama’s high-profile public statement - “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon” - was bizarre and seemed to show undue bias. Taking swift action against those who seek to incite racial violence would demonstrate that the federal government enforces the law without prejudice.

If only some whites would put a bounty on the leader’s head of the Black Pampers.

It would be a “teachable moment” for the progressives, the media and everyone else.

If Florida laws have been broken, why hasn’t FL law enforcement issued arrest warrants?

Federalism 101 - it is not for the Federal DOJ to enforce State laws.

Dollars to donuts Holders people made the same promises to Santorum.

Listen to Rev Wright lately? Or Farrakhan, Sharpton, Jesse jackson?

Why in the world would Santorum throw in the towel now? Maybe he did not want to be Breitbart-ed. Lotta Vince Fostering going around all of a sudden.

You would be well-advised to more-closely reread the text you cited.

I wish. I don't know why any white group should even be afraid to do so, only two things could happen-either no one would have the nerve to charge them with anything after letting the nbp get away with it, or if they were charged, after letting the nbp get away with it, the roar of indignation from most whites would be deafening. I would hope such an open display of partiality in enforcing the law towards blacks would rile up enough whites.

Somebody ought to call their bluff. Put a bounty on ALL the Black Panthers with the caveat that it goes into effect if ANYTHING happens to George Zimmerman as a result of action by civilians. Same deal: “dead or alive”. Watch Holder move his a*s then.

Uh, Reading Comprehension 101 - my question referred to STATE laws & STATE law enforcement. Federalism & the DOJ have nothing to do with my question.

If Florida laws have been broken then Florida law enforcement may issue arrest warrants w/o consulting Holder, the DOJ, or anybody else. Again, why haven't they (Florida Law Enforcement) issued arrest warrants?

I guarantee you that if the Black Panthers start passing out “Wanted: Dead or Alive” posters in Maricopa Co, AZ, Sheriff Joe Arpaio will immediately arrest & jail them.
