National Right to Life, others endorse Romney (Dear Lord)
Baptist Press/Town Hall ^ | 4-12-12 | Michael Foust

National Right to Life and two other major pro-family groups have endorsed Mitt Romney for president, saying that on the issues of abortion and marriage, he stands with them.

National Right to Life's endorsement Thursday (April 12) came two days after Romney's leading challenger for the Republican nomination -- Rick Santorum -- dropped out, making Romney the presumptive nominee. Also endorsing Romney were the Susan B. Anthony List, a group that supports pro-life women for political office, and the National Organization for Marriage, which has led the charge nationwide in protecting the traditional definition of marriage.

In its endorsement, National Right to Life said Romney "has taken a strong pro-life position and is committed to implementing policies to protect the unborn." The organization said Romney:

-- opposes Roe v. Wade, having called the 1973 decision a "big mistake."

-- supports the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for abortions.

-- backs the Mexico City Policy, which bans federal funds for organizations that perform or promote abortions in foreign countries.

"On pro-life issues, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama provide a stark contrast," said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. "As the country's most pro-abortion president, Barack Obama has pursued a radical pro-abortion agenda. It is now time for pro-life Americans to unite behind Mitt Romney. For the sake of unborn children, the disabled, and the elderly, we must win."

The Susan B. Anthony List made similar points and added that Romney has pledged to "appoint only constitutionalist judges to the federal bench" and also to defund Planned Parenthood.

"Women deserve a president who truly respects our views on an issue so central to womanhood," said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. "A President Romney will be that man. If there was murkiness during the last election over Barack Obama's extreme abortion position, absolute clarity exists now -- and his abortion position is rejected by women young and old."

The National Organization for Marriage, which played key roles in preventing gay "marriage" from being legalized in California and Maine, said Romney was an early signer of the organization's pledge, which meant he was committing to:

-- support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

-- appoint Supreme Court justices and an attorney general "who will apply the original meaning of the Constitution."

-- "vigorously" defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act in court.

-- establish a presidential commission on religious liberty.

-- advance legislation to allow District of Columbia citizens to vote on the definition of marriage. Gay "marriage" currently is legal in D.C.

Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, said the group was "proud" to endorse Romney.

"President Obama," Brown said, "has declared our nation's marriage laws to be unconstitutional and not only has refused to defend them, his administration is actively working to repeal them in the courts. He's come out against state constitutional amendments defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. And he has appointed leaders of the same-sex 'marriage' movement as national co-chairs of his reelection campaign.

Incredibly, Obama still apparently claims to personally support traditional marriage. With friends like President Obama, the institution of marriage doesn't need enemies."

"Well said, but I think it will be difficult for the obsessive die-hards here to follow your advice. There are a lot of self-defeating stupid Freepers here (similar to the idiotic single-issue maniacs in DUmmyland). Fortunately, these people are insignificant aberrations on the fringes, inconsequential in their influence on the GOP. We will see..."

Uh-huh.

The other day there was a picture here of a dead baby, post-abortion, lying on a towel. There was a big bloodstain on one side because his arm had been torn off. It made me literally sick. And I thought about how Romney had enabled women to have such a horrific thing done for only fifty bucks. And it's still happening, and he has no problem with it.

I simply refuse to align myself with that kind of evil. I can see myself standing before Jesus Christ one day, trying to explain that it was only one fringe issue, and besides, Obama was in office so I thought He'd make an exception.

How do you think that would go over?

At least, I'll fight for my kids and never have such a defeatist attitude and giving in to the hen pecking words of the GOP e and the media and spreading their lies!

I'm not going to argue with the delusional. You can keep on living in your magical world where Newt Gingrich is going to win the Republican nomination, crush Obama in a landslide victory and usher in a new age of American prosperity. I'm sure this magical world is a wonderful place. The world I live in is a tad more complicated.

Regardless, I WILL vote against Soetoro in November.

At least there's ONE thing we can agree on! LOL!

Excellent post, wagglebee.

I would add this about conversion. You want to believe the person, and you want to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, you don’t make the convert the head of the department in which they formerly were grossly sinful.

For example, if I had a person in the church who’d had issue of embezzlement, and they converted, I would not put them in charge of church finances. I wouldn’t put a former pedophile in charge of the youth program.

Even the Apostle Paul left Jerusalem because it was too difficult for those he’d formerly hounded to death to deal with those memories. They didn’t put him in charge of pilgrim trips from Damascus to the Temple in Jerusalem.

Likewise, one so blatantly and viciously pro-abortion should not be put in charge of executing the laws of the land on that subject.

A case in point is that Romney distanced himself from anything gay during the 2008 campaign, but afterwards he again came out in favor of gay unions. IOW, he has a history of multiple “conversions” back and forth.

At some point, the number of people laughing will be dwarfed by the number of people they are laughing at.

Your time at FR has been hallmarked by your work to discourage and squelch conservatism at FR. Now you want to promote the leftist talking point that there is no hope, that the republican nominee is already decided. Piss on you, liar. There are more delgates still to be determined than your choice has even obtained. Go back to your leftist butties and stop spewing your crap at FR.

The world I live in is a tad more complicated.

You make it that way with living in fear and a defeatist attitude. You'd probably say to Paul Revere 'where I don't see them'.

My world isn't magical because I refuse to be a lowlife! Embrace your PRO HOMO candidate all your want. He will have no problem scr*wing you - he does it to everyone, it's his record. You will then get what you deserve and then you will know who the delusional one is. Meantime, enjoy 'your fantasy' as it will be short lived.

on par with the office ONLY JESUS CHRIST

That's a satan trademark, as is known - satan has always wanted to be like God. Mitt is satan's minion. There is no doubt about that. Satan is the master of lies and that's who is mitt's master. All his supporters are going down with him, they as accountable as he is now as satan drew them into his web of deceit.

You can vote for Romney. Or you can vote for Obama.

Or you can vote third party, or not vote for president at all and vote for Senate/Congress/down ticket races.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do. But I have no desire to be complicit in the GOP-E's mugging of anyone not named Romney this time around. And as others have noted, Romney with a GOP Congress would probably be worse than Bush being unwilling to veto spending bills from a GOP Congress. At least Bush had his saving graces. I really can't think of any for Romney, other than he's not named Obama.

Settling for Romney is premature so long as Gingrich is in the race and Romney doesn't have the delegates.

But on the matter you raised, if we want the congress to stop deficit spending, we need to elect people who will do that. Obama certainly isn't going to stop a republican congress from overspending, and I doubt any republican president would have vetoed republican bills; I do wish Bush would have pushed back more, but frankly I'm not sure he wasn't happy with the spending levels.

Courage is the ability to face the truth and do our best in dealing with that truth.

What the h*ll do you know about truth? Supporting a KNOWN LIAR and speaking about truth!! LOL!! Some really do have their head in the sand. WUSSES don't have courage - they are only capable of talking about it, druggie. Talk about facing anything, you are facing a scr*wing by mitt, that's his mo.

And your time at FR has been hallmarked by your drunken posts, often well before noon.

There are more delgates still to be determined than your choice has even obtained.

My choice? My choice was Rick Perry. For reasons I'll never be able to adequately figure out he was unable to close the deal with primary voters. Nonetheless, Perry shares many traits with Newt Gingrich. Right now they both share the same chances of being the next Republican nominee for president: Microscopically greater than zero.

I’m not at all surprised at NRL. NRL has been a purely political animal for a long time now, unwilling to take on the really challenging issues.

On the other hand, I’m really disappointed in NOM. I was surprised and dismayed to see them cave.

But the whole conservative movement is so desperate to see Obama gone, their willing to drink the Romney kool aid.

Wrong.

There are other choices for principled conservatives.

Romney is on record supporting gay partnerships...unions. He signed the first national gay marriage orders.

How the NOM can support him is beyond belief.

This country is crazy. It’s so-called family values organizations are crazy. Their principles are “organization survival” and look not at all to the principles of Christ.

Their future is an implosion. If you give in before the race is over, before the platform is written, then you announce to the world that you don’t have the backbone to hold out for anything.
