National Right to Life, others endorse Romney (Dear Lord)
Baptist Press/Town Hall ^ | 4-12-12 | Michael Foust

National Right to Life and two other major pro-family groups have endorsed Mitt Romney for president, saying that on the issues of abortion and marriage, he stands with them.

National Right to Life's endorsement Thursday (April 12) came two days after Romney's leading challenger for the Republican nomination -- Rick Santorum -- dropped out, making Romney the presumptive nominee. Also endorsing Romney were the Susan B. Anthony List, a group that supports pro-life women for political office, and the National Organization for Marriage, which has led the charge nationwide in protecting the traditional definition of marriage.

In its endorsement, National Right to Life said Romney "has taken a strong pro-life position and is committed to implementing policies to protect the unborn." The organization said Romney:

-- opposes Roe v. Wade, having called the 1973 decision a "big mistake."

-- supports the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for abortions.

-- backs the Mexico City Policy, which bans federal funds for organizations that perform or promote abortions in foreign countries.

"On pro-life issues, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama provide a stark contrast," said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. "As the country's most pro-abortion president, Barack Obama has pursued a radical pro-abortion agenda. It is now time for pro-life Americans to unite behind Mitt Romney. For the sake of unborn children, the disabled, and the elderly, we must win."

The Susan B. Anthony List made similar points and added that Romney has pledged to "appoint only constitutionalist judges to the federal bench" and also to defund Planned Parenthood.

"Women deserve a president who truly respects our views on an issue so central to womanhood," said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. "A President Romney will be that man. If there was murkiness during the last election over Barack Obama's extreme abortion position, absolute clarity exists now -- and his abortion position is rejected by women young and old."

The National Organization for Marriage, which played key roles in preventing gay "marriage" from being legalized in California and Maine, said Romney was an early signer of the organization's pledge, which meant he was committing to:

-- support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

-- appoint Supreme Court justices and an attorney general "who will apply the original meaning of the Constitution."

-- "vigorously" defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act in court.

-- establish a presidential commission on religious liberty.

-- advance legislation to allow District of Columbia citizens to vote on the definition of marriage. Gay "marriage" currently is legal in D.C.

Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, said the group was "proud" to endorse Romney.

"President Obama," Brown said, "has declared our nation's marriage laws to be unconstitutional and not only has refused to defend them, his administration is actively working to repeal them in the courts. He's come out against state constitutional amendments defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. And he has appointed leaders of the same-sex 'marriage' movement as national co-chairs of his reelection campaign.

Incredibly, Obama still apparently claims to personally support traditional marriage. With friends like President Obama, the institution of marriage doesn't need enemies."

The mask of pro-Republican groups which falsely lay claim to being Right to Life has been off for a while.

Such groups actually fight AGAINST pro-life legislation.

Mitt Romney is not our nominee. There is not a race between Romney and Obama.

If these people really cared about getting a pro-lifer in there they would be galvanizing around Newt Gingrich right now.

They will not get one red cent from me, and when they hand out the voter’s guides I will take what they say with a pillar of salt.

I hate to see FR self destruct, as it has served a very valuable function.

However, the “holier than thou” attacks on every other Conservative organization, and on every other Conservative leader who disagrees with some Freepers WILL diminish and marginalize Free Republic.

FR belongs to JR, and if he does not want me promoting Romney I can go along with that. I will use FR to attack Obama and other Marxist Liberals and I will use FR to support Conservative Republicans running for other offices.

I hope these threads do not become a joke and a laughingstock.

Radical Birthers, Mormon bashers and fringe cranks should not be allowed to dominate the Conservative movement.

I don't trust Romney to keep all of his promises.

I DO trust Obama to be a radical, proabortion Marxist tyrant.

This is not a hard call.

10 years from now, when many of us are dead or bankrupted or in jail on trumped up political charges, you can all brag about how “pure” you were in 2012, and how you did not “compromise” -—

But the wise left among us will smirk that you CAUSED our defeat!

Drew you are absolutely correct!

That’s right.

The main legislation they push now is utterly immoral, completely unconstitutional “fetal pain” legislation.

It’s disgusting.

Last year some of our people managed to strip the Planned Parenthood funding out of our state’s Medicaid bill. The “Republican” groups of which you speak cut a deal with the Democrats on the last day of the session and put it all back.

Romney is not our candidate and hopefully never will be. The guy has overseen the government forcing Catholic hospitals to commit what Catholic doctrine says is murder. I don’t care whether it’s the feds or a state that does it, that’s diametrically opposed to the principle of religious liberty and DANGEROUS precedent in a time when our chief enemy - the Islamists - want to use foot-in-the-door precedents at the local and state levels to get sharia forced on all of us.

Mitt Romney is dangerous.

This race is not Romney v Obama. This race is Romney v Gingrich, and these people have a heckuva lot of explaining to do by pledging their support to Romney when the solidly-pro-life Gingrich is still in the race.

This is a betrayal, while Gingrich is still in the race. And I do not trust these supposed pro-lifers any more.

FR's not self-destructing. Romney Republicans are. They're just too blinded by perceived political expediency to know it.

You’ve said that you’re an entrenched Republican operative. Surely you know the difference between the primary and the general elections by now.

Which are we in right now? Primary, or general?

Ah, but it's fine and dandy if gun-banning, homosexual marriage-instituting, abortion-funding, socialists do, eh?

Is that right? It’s absolutely shocking for a pro life organization to intentionally ignore Romney’s past policies and statements.

Romney

1. Implemented/created Gay Marriage in MA
2. Supported and forced Gay Adoption in MA
3. Supported Abortion wholeheartedly
4. Raised taxes/fees over 300% while being Governor of MA
5. Implemented a state-level Cap and Trade system.
6. Supported Man-Made Global Warming
7. Supported the Brady Bill
8. Implemented a state level “Assault” Weapons Bill after the Federal AWB was allowed to expire
9. Supported TARP
10. Supported Amnesty for Illegal Aliens (Citizenship for those already here)
11. Supported McCain-Kennedy(Amenesty)
12. Implemented a socialized medicine in MA called RomneyCare complete with an Individual Mandate and $50 abortions
13. Nominated 27 Democrats (out of 36 nominations) for judgeships in MA, many of them extreme left-wingers

May want to rethink your nonchalance .. at least on this site.

PS, this is a pro life, pro God, pro freedom, pro Constitution site, etc., as repeatedly and very clearly enunciated by the owner.

We don’t have cable. What did she say?

Have you folks noticed that the same people who mock the rule of law in the eligibility issue (Drew68 and Kansas-whatever) are the people who mock religious freedom and life in the abortion issue.

The marching orders are to support whatever the dang Republican establishment wants - never mind that the R establishment is darn near as crooked and lawless as the democrat establishment. I’m having a hard time seeing any difference between the two at this point.

I’m switching my registration from Independent to Republican tomorrow, so I can vote for Newt Gingrich. It gags me to have to do it. My husband says it will get me phone calls asking for money. I said I welcome phone calls because if anybody from the R’s dares to call me I’ll give them an earfull about why they will never get one red cent out of me and the only reason I’m on their list is because I have to be in order to vote in the primary election. Until they stand for the rule of law and the Constitution they are a hindrance to this country.

Nonsense!
I have watched Judie Brown and Nellie Gray and the American Life Lobby let their ego get in the way many times.

In Kansas, the ALL types OPPOSED “Parental Consent” legislation only because the NRLC affiliates supported that Legislation.

The ALL local affiliates even sat AT THE SAME TABLE with Abortionist George Tiller, as witnesses and spokespersons AGAINST said legislation.

The “purist” ALL types said they wanted Parental Notification instead since “no one has the right to give consent to abortion”.

They were clearly dishonest in that position, as ALL had supported IDENTICAL legislation in other States! Operation Rescue, ALL and the purest groups are legally and politically incompetent.

They are fools who do not know how to get any legislation passed and fools who do not know how to get any politician elected.

The Hyde Amendment has saved more lives than any thing else in history, and NRLC has been VERY effective in passing and enforcing the Hyde Amendment for decades.

The public does not want a complete ban on abortion, but the public WOULD support a ban on all abortions except those in cases of Rape, Incest and actual threat to the mothers life.

ALL and the purists will not support such legislation.

Even though such legislation would outlaw 95% of the abortions performed and WOULD have majority support of the voters. They say “No compromise, no exceptions” which means:

NOTHING HAPPENS!

I also remember Nellie Gray and Judy Brown and the March for Life and ALL groups bashing RONALD REAGAN since a few of his cabinet members were not pro-life. They did this in the very year that George H.W. BUSH took over for Ronald Reagan, during that March for Life, in their OFFICIAL publications!

Again, you are politically incompetentent if you do not accept the expertise of the National Right to Life Committee!
