The first female, otherwise known as my wife, informed me that there was a local gun show over the weekend.
I declined, although I did like the invite. We’ve no holes in our protective armament, and we’re short of money.
There’s still the .50 BMG, but I’ve a hard time coming up with a reason for a thousand yard weapon when I live in the woods where sixty yards would be a long shot...
had a barrett for a while, swarovski scope has markings out to 2,000 meters, and yes you can really hit something regularly at 1500 meters, as long as you know EXACTLY how far away it is.
got rid of it though. couple shots and it made your gums bleed. not the recoil but the concussion from the muzzle brake, and i mean how many places can you shoot 1500 meters.
one interesting thing, at that distance its flying around a 30 foot drop. that always amazed me. you would shoot it, and count to 4 or 5 and hear the clang coming back from the target.
One good reason:
It won't matter if they are hiding behind a tree.... even a big one.
Then of course there is the choice of Ball, AP, API, APIT, Incendiary & spotter/tracer ammo.
The .50 BMG is more like the weapon you want when you need to reach out there for a mile. There are a lot of cheaper ways to say hello at a thousand yards.
Well, you can always use it for indirect fire or AA purposes...
