Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch warned a tax day rally Saturday that America's attention is focused on Wisconsin and residents here have a stark choice to make in the upcoming recall elections.

Kleefisch defended the Republicans’ budget reforms and said the race represents a clear choice for which direction voters want to take the state.

“America’s eyes are focused right here today,” Kleefisch said. “We have a choice right now of moving backward or forward.”

Kleefisch was joined by several conservative commentators at the annual tax day rally put on by the state chapter of Americans for Prosperity. The speakers praised Gov. Scott Walker, fought back against the Democrats’ “war on women” charges and advocated for limited government while combating chants from anti-Walker protestors.

Kleefisch, who took the stage outside the Capitol with her two daughters, initially targeted her message toward mothers. Republicans have claimed that Democrats have launched a “war on moms” following Dem strategist Hilary Rosen remarks that Ann Romney, wife of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and stay-at-home mom, has never worked a day in her life.

“Let me tell you, you do the toughest work in America and I thank you and your children thank you, and we are going to change this country to what it deserves to be to give our little ones the prosperity that they need,” Kleefisch said.

Wearing a “Remember Breitbart” shirt to honor her late colleague, Andrew Breitbart, conservative blogger Dana Loesch also accused Dems of launching a “war on moms,” saying they want to exploit women and keep them quiet.

“I’ve got a message for you Democrats, I’ve got a message for you AFL-CIO, I’ve got a message for you SEIU: We are not your typical, fragile, wallflower in the kitchen making sandwiches kind of women.” Loesch said. “Conservative women hit back.”

Conservative talk show host James Harris accused Democrats of conducting a “war on Wisconsin” and using recalls as “a weapon of mass destruction” over the past year, but said conservatives are still winning the state and encouraged the audience to remain strong for the fight this summer.

“Through all the recalls, we’re still standing,” Harris said. “There’s one more battle to go this June. But you know what? We’ll be standing after that as well.”

AFP-Wisconsin Director Luke Hilgemann stressed that conservatives need to rally behind the people who made the right choices in Wisconsin and advanced the principles of limited government and individual liberty.

“Instead of the spending interests taking precedence over the taxpayers, our legislators are now listening to we the people,” Hilgemann said. “That is the Wisconsin way; that is the Walker way.”

Amid heckling and shouting from counter-protesters, Madison-based conservative talk show host Vicki McKenna said Wisconsin is leading a national fight for liberty.

“Tyranny is the absence of choice in government and that is why, ladies and gentlemen, as goes Wisconsin, so goes America,” McKenna said which was met with chants of, “Walker.”

Conservative political activist Stephen Kruiser applauded the crowd for getting out of their comfort zones to participate in the Tea Party movement, but also told them that they need to remain active in the fight beyond the 2012 elections.

“You need to think in terms of more than one election cycle,” Kruiser said. “We have to stay here hold the people on both sides of the aisle accountable.”

According to Hilgemann, around 6,300 people attended the rally. Over 100 counter-protesters were present as well. Several arguments broke out between the two sides throughout the afternoon, but none escalated above a shouting match. At one point, the crowd of Tea Party supporters chanted “shame” at the anti-Walker demonstrators in unison.

Wow! 6,000 people? That’s great. Maybe the union thugs won’t be so eager to attack good conservative people in WI now.
