Voter ID Laws: Racist or Reasonable?
Big Government ^ | April 13, 2012 | Brandon Darby

There’s been much said lately about election integrity and voter identification laws. Both sides of the American political spectrum have raised concerns over polls and potential abuses in the American voting process. In fact, due to the serious voter registration irregularities identified by groups like True the Vote in Texas, along with the numerous voter fraud convictions across the nation involving workers from politically motivated groups like the failed organization ACORN, many states are pursuing photo identification as a means of addressing such assaults on election integrity. Texas, South Carolina, and Florida have all taken steps to mandate photo identification as a requirement for voting. In general, Americans holding left-of-center perspectives tend to characterize these as organized racist efforts to suppress low-income Americans or minorities from voting. DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz went so far in condemning several recent initiatives to protect against voter fraud as to suggest Republicans want to push voters back to the days of Jim Crow.

Americans with right-of-center perspectives tend to claim the Left defies these laws to facilitate voter fraud and register dead or nonexistent people. The Right has also suggested in some cases that efforts to allow Democrats to vote twice or more are in play, as was discovered near Houston, Texas, during the 2010 midterm elections.

Both sides have legitimate facts and anecdotes to validate their points of view. There was a time in our nation when black Americans weren’t allowed to vote. Even after their right to vote was recognized, thanks to the hard and often dangerous—sometimes fatal—work of black activists and allies, laws were implemented by the old Democrats of the South to ensure black Americans still couldn’t vote.....

We have to show ID to even charge something at retailers nowadays...so yeah, protecting the integrity of the voting process is hardly “racist”

Reasonable and righteous to me, are racist to the likes of Holder, Sharpton, Jackson, the democrats and their dependent voter fraud crowd.

Reasonable. Prove to me via any rational argument that it is in any way even remotely racist.

My friends and I have compiled a short list of what you need to show a photo ID card to do certain things. They are, but not restricted to: (1) getting a job; (2) opening a bank account; (3) boarding an aircraft; (4) buying cigarettes; (5) buying liquor; (6) cashing a check; (7) getting medical tests done at an outside lab; (8) entering certain federal office buildings; (9) entering a military installation; (10) paying for a purchase with a check; (11) registering an automobile; (12) signing a rental agreement for an apartment; 13) getting a motel/hotel room; (14) purchasing a firearm; (15) in certain when you purchase ammunition; (16) drive a car; and the list goes on and on.

In short, if one does not have a photo ID, I do not believe it's possible to be engaged in contemporary American society. You'd have to be so far under the radar, that you are literally off the grid and living as a recluse. The assertion that voter ID laws will disenfranchise American citizens is so lame that anyone making that assertion should be examined for being psychologically disabled.

Now if someone is actually loving that far off the grid as to not have a Photo ID and not doing any of the aforementioned common practices, then I would say that voting is not even registering with them and that it is a moot point.

I've used this argument in discussing voter ID with the few liberals I know, and when confronted with the list of what you need, they are usually left dumbfounded and unable to continue supporting their side of the discussion.

So why do liberals continue to use the lame excuse of disenfranchising voters? Because they need to continue supporting voter fraud to win elections.

It's not just a claim. It's a FACT.

When I get medical treatment, I have to show a picture ID, under a rule promulgated by the Obama Administration. Who knew that Barack Obama was prejudiced against black people?

How about this: You only get to vote if you’re paying taxes.

If you’re not contributing you get no say in elections.

It’s remarkable how far we’ve meandered from freedom and the associated responsibility of being a citizen.

I guess it would be racist if you hold that blacks don't know how to find a DMV or fill out a form. If that is what you think of blacks then of course you would think Voter ID is racist.

I think they can do it.

At my supermarket Wednesday, was checking out in the liquor area as nobody hardly knows it’s a 15 or less regular checkout. Gal left her ID on the counter. Black.

They all have ID if they want smokes, alcohol, bank accounts, check cashing places, utilities, plane tickets, rental cars, hotel rooms, jobs, government benefits. They all have IDs, it,s just that they can’t cheat if they have to show ID.

Turn your argument around. I would suspect that the vast majority without photo identification are recipients of some form of public aid. Why not provide such recipients with photo IDs?

Absolutely! Good first step.

Next... why let them vote if they’re on the dole?

The last time I was at Walmart I had to show a photo id. Apparently if the purchases are over a certain dollar amount they ask for a photo id. My wife works at Fort Hood in Texas, each and every time I see her at work I must show a photo ID to get on base. She works in a secure area and to get to that area I must also show a photo id and give them that id to hold until I return to the security area. In return they give me a visitors pass. Last week when driving from El Paso to my home near Austin I had to show a photo id to the Border Patrol check station near El Paso. My friend with me is from England, he had to show his passport. Every time I fly I must show a photo id.

Question: Why is Mr Holder not telling all the above business and government agencies that they are discriminating against those without a photo id?

Long ago, everyone, at least where we lived, voted on the same day - the first Tuesday in November. Polling places were generally in schools and although not necessarily convenient for some, seems like everyone I knew always made it to the polls either before work or school or on the way home. Voting was just something everyone did. I don’t remember having to show ID when I was younger, perhaps I did. But there was no early voting, no mailing in your votes and the computer didn’t even exist. I know there has been a push to “make it more convenient” for people but I do really believe that if people could only vote in person and on election day, a lot of the opportunities for fraud would be eliminated.

If showing an ID is racist for voting, then it’s racist for everything. All or nothing here.

No they don't. Not in today's world anyway. The ONLY reason to squash voter ID laws is to allow illegals to vote.

Voter ID Laws: Racist or Reasonable?

The very FACT that this headline is not accompanied by belly laughter is prima facie evidence that our Republic is doomed.

Except for a very few areas (gun rights, but that will be 'fixed' by the Trayvons), conservatives and little-r republicans have lost every single battle in the civil society.

We cannot ask for ID without being called 'racist'. Even though ID is needed for every other aspect of life in this increasingly-totalitarian police state. "Your papers, please!" or you will be shot by rogue cops. But not at the voting booth! Let the damn illegals in to vote! Oh, I forgot, 'no person is illegal'!

The majority of the population is so wrapped up in bread and circuses that they don't give a flying fornication what his happening to the country.

They will wake up one day, with rioters burning down all the major cities, no food or water available because the #Occupiers have derailed all the trains, overturned all the trucks, and looted all the stores, and these sheep will wonder what they do now. It will be too late, and they will die, by the millions. And if they come to loot my stuff, I will add them to the bell's toll.

Ain't I just a cheery soul?
