Anne Romney And The Dogma That Crossed Main Street
Townhall.com ^ | April 15, 2012 | Austin Hill

Dogma – a prescribed doctrine proclaimed as unquestionably true by a particular group; a belief system that remains largely unchallenged.

Sometimes dictionary definitions can seem vague or esoteric. But as it pertains to understanding President Obama and his devotees, it’s best to try and understand them through the lenses of left-wing dogma.

And the Anne Romney has “never worked a day in her life” flap is just the latest example of left-wing dogma colliding with mainstream America. Granted the strategic insulting of Mrs. Romney last week originated from Hillary Rosen, a liberal Democrat pundit, and not President Obama himself (although Ms. Rosen claims that she’s received numerous calls from the White House echoing support for her efforts to malign Mitt Romney’s wife). Yet it in the week prior, President Obama noted at a White House forum on women that in the early days of his marriage and career, he and his wife Michelle didn’t “have the luxury for her not to work.”

To those of us in “fly over country,” it may seem far-fetched to believe that two graduates of elite private east coast universities and an Ivy League law school, and who are stalwarts in what they call the “pro choice” political agenda, were left struggling without any economic choices when they started a family. But this is to view matters in overly literal, concrete terms. On the left side of the aisle, dogma comes first; reality is secondary, and one’s perception of reality is always shaped by that dogma.

Thus, the attitude reflected by President Obama and Hillary Rosen is illustrative of at least a couple of those “prescribed doctrines” understood to be “unquestionably true.” For one, women never freely choose to not be on a career track. Male oppression keeps women out of the marketplace, and, therefore, women who are only mothers are actually victims, and are in need of government programs (think affirmative action, “anti-discrimination” laws, etc..) to correct the injustices done to them.

If you live outside the confines of this dogma as I do, you may be thinking “but wait! Some women actually choose motherhood before career, and some husbands make tremendous sacrifices to allow that stay-at-home mom thing to happen.” But this leads us to another item of “unquestionably true” dogma: any woman who was truly being “herself” would never freely choose motherhood above all else.

On the contrary, a woman who thinks this way is being held hostage to ancient, patriarchal, male-dominated ideas – we’ll call it “ideological victimization” that probably happened within the context of an unenlightened religious setting – and she is need of a swift rebuke, if not more government intervention. Left-wing dogma always tells us that mere motherhood is not really working. That may be painful for some women, but such confrontation is really for a woman’s own good, and certainly adds to the “collective good” of the dogmatic community.

Are you beginning to understand how left-wing dogma works? Here’s another example of it: one should always assume the worst about the U.S. military, except when it is being commanded by a Democrat President and when it is participating in a multilateral mission (U.S. troops deployed side-by-side with troops from other countries).

Because of the “unquestionably true” nature of these assumptions, left-wing America was always going to hold a grudge about having troops in Iraq. The mission in Iraq began with Republican President George W. Bush, and while the “troop surge” was implemented by Barack Obama, it nonetheless was George W Bush’s idea (gasp!).

While not-so-dogmatic Americans may be wondering what is happening to American interests in Iraq since the troop draw-down there, left-wing America is satisfied that our foreign policy is more in line with proper dogma – and current conditions in Iraq don’t matter.

And recall from last month the very dogmatic visit to Afghanistan by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. Before American military personnel were permitted to enter the room where Secretary Panetta spoke, they were forced to disarm, and leave their weapons outside. The Administration later noted that the reason for this was because there were Afghani troops in the room who were required to disarm, so therefore the U.S. troops needed to be treated equally with the Afghani’s.

The multilateral mission in Afghanistan is, itself, in line with left-wing dogma – Barack Obama said during his first campaign that the mission Afghanistan was the “real war” we needed to be engaged in, rather than Iraq (so it must be true). And by virtue of being “multilateral,” well – suffice it to say that the Afghanistan mission fulfills two dogmatic requirements.

Yet it would violate another component of dogma if U.S. troops were treated as though they were superior, or more trustworthy, than the members of any other military. Thus, the U.S. military was treated exactly the same as the Afghani troops when Mr. Panetta visited, so it was all dogmatically good.

President Obama’s dogma is often met with opposition on main street America. But until we elect a new President, expect the “disconnect” to continue.

The Romney campaign will play this up to the hilt. In reality it is nothing new when it comes to democrat vs conservative women.

Funny thing is that the liberal minions continue to keep shouting, “The truth hurts, she has never worked.” And by work, they are referring to the herculean task of writing 800 word op-ed pieces and touting liberal memes in front of a tv camera.

What?!?!?!? My boss wants me to edit my piece to only 650 words? I’m gonna have to pull an all nighter!!!!

you make a great point, and it’s tied to something that I think many Americans miss. Our biggest problem is the creeping bureaucratic cancer that is slowly but surely dragging down our entire economy and way of life.

And many libs work as bureaucrats in that machinery, where they are not missed if they are not there, they add nothing to anyones life but misery to the folks whom they administer whatever sort of government crap the department they work for is in charge of - and yet - they call that “work” and they think it adds to society - because many of the bureaucracies are full of liberal women with children whom we pay other bureaucrats to take care of .

And yes, they are in the media, as you say.

Like all of the welfare stay at home moms that live off of the Government Dole?

Anne Romney’s biggest mistake was marrying that skunk liberal of a husband of hers. I don’t care if she is the best mother in the World. She has a horrible sense of making good decisions. Marrying a communist was not a good decision. Hopefully the Romney’s just return back to Mass or Michigan. Be rid of the garbage. Say no to Romney!!!!!

Speaking of "dogma": the "progressive" dogma holds that only the "government" can "educate" children, through its bureaucracies, unions, and other tentacles of propaganda and control.

This ties to the same "dogma" discussed here, concerning the role of women.

In my neighborhood a couple recently purchased a house which needed repairs and much cleanup and care of a large yard with lots of shrubs and flowers from the previous owner/gardener.

The family is made up of a father, who is a youth minister, a mother, and a 14-year-old, a 13-year-old, and an 11-year-old.

Neighbors are observing and commenting on an almost-unheard-of set of activities as this family prepares to move into what is now turning out to be a refurbished home and lovely grounds, thanks to the hard work of the parents and each of the 3 children.

A neighbor commented: "I saw something today that I haven't seen in a long time: those 3 kids at that house were out there working all day, digging, mowing, pushing the wheelbarrow, and acting like they were enjoyin' it!"

The next observation was that the mother home schools them also!

The oldest boy already has gone door to door offering to mow yards this summer, presenting himself very professionally, carrying a little notepad, and leaving his name and telephone number for any odd jobs, etc.

My comment was that the gardening project may be part of home school studies as well.

This stay-at-home mom certainly cannot be accused of "never having worked a day in her life," and the public school bureaucracies/unions are not polluting her children's minds with trivia and propaganda, and a sense of dependency either.

This wasn't dogma. This was an angry lezbeootch who had been unleashed by the White Hut. She insulted Ann on CNN, immediately turned to Twitter and took Ann on personally, then posted a nasty midnight diatribe on HuffPo. This is how sloppily Axelrot intends to lose this election. Like a punchdrunk prizefighter well past his time.

Great advice. Thinking like yours assures all of us of 4 more years of the Kenyan.

Newt will not be on the ballot. Your choice is simple, Obama or Romney. While I am not a fan of Romney’s, I’ll vote for any candidate the Republican’s nominate vs. Obama.

Nothing could be worse than 4 more...our country will be lost if that happens.

Michelle didn’t “have the luxury for her not to work.”

Hmm. Michelle job was so taxing and important that it wasn't filled after she resigned. I wonder how much work she was doing when she was 'working.'

And just how did Michelle get that job? Well, Michelle was promoted by University of Chicago Medical Center to the newly created position of Vice President for Community and External Affairs after Barack Obama was elected Senator. Convenient. And her salary went from $121,910 to $316,962 AND she received a 'signing bonus,' despite the fact she was already employed by the UofCMC.

Michelle must have done a bang-up job. UofCMC didn't need a VP of Community and External Affairs until Michelle's husband was elected Senator, and didn't need one after Michelle resigned. She completed all of the Community and External Affair-ing that the UofCMC ever needed, all in her tenure.

It won’t be my fault if Obama is the President for another four years. I didn’t vote for him last time nor will I this time. The GOPe was warned not to chose Romney and they did. Now they will pay the price. Biggest problem for GOPe is that I am in a toss up state of Pennsylvania so they have a choice....get my vote and ensure that Newt gets the nomination or play the dice and hope others will make up for my vote. It is their choice 100 percent. I am not to be blamed for Obama winning again. You can call me every name in the book (I have heard them all), but that will not convince me of voting for a communist named Romney.

So who is this Hillary Rosen? Who does she think that she is? I find it hillarious, however, that she got snapped back at by a MS-affected woman, and suddenly doesn’t look all that brave to me.

Are you going to bother voting congressional. Put in mind if conservativism loses Congress, we are going to get screwed more than you realize. As for the president, have it your way. I am sick of Obama and his playing up race and other garbage as opposed to addressing why he let Bush deficits on steroids fly.

Yeah, I am not fond of Romney, but even if I don’t want him elected Hillary Rosen’s comments are still uncalled for. I find it funny that this woman asks for tolerance, yet has some serious issues that she can’t contain when someone else simply makes known her own life decision.

Definitely. Congress needs shaping up too. The Republicans in the House are pretty weak so hopefully we can get some House Reps with balls. I wouldn’t mind Bachmann as House Majority Leader. Boner needs to step down. He stinks.

Definitely, and I think you nailed it. Bachmann’s confrontational attitude matches perfectly as a House Speaker. Plus, regardless of who is president, there’s not much you can do, aside from personal scandal, to get booted out of being Speaker.
