Red Hot Chili Peppers play special show for Obama volunteers
Entertainment Weekly ^ | 4/16/12 | Hillary Busis

About 12 hours after being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Red Hot Chili Peppers gave it away, gave it away, gave it away… for Obama campaign volunteers at Cleveland’s House of Blues. As Cleveland’s Plain Dealer writes, the band performed a special 45-minute concert for 1,200 liberal-minded music lovers. Tickets were free, provided a would-be concert-goer had worked in an Obama phone bank.

A video montage of Obama speeches paved the way for Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and Josh Klinghoffer’s set. In between hits like “Under the Bridge” and “Can’t Stop,” Kiedis urged the audience to register voters and declared his support for our 44th president. From Blood Sugar Sex Magik to stumping for a sitting POTUS —who says a rocker’s edge dulls with age?

wow..just wow... they are perfect for each other.. On one hand you have a man you can't say a syllable without an electronic device called a “teleprompter”,

and on the other you have a singer who can't sing a note (in tune) without an electronic device called “auto-tune”..

it's a good marriage. a more perfect union.

True. But at least these 'volunteers' were being rewarded in an open way.

I find something like this to be the least offending method of 'giving back' to your supporters. If I were a volunteer for a certain candidate, and got free tickets to a special show along with my co-volunteers, I would accept.

Besides, I really like the RHCP.

Let me guess. They played "Skinny Sweaty Man" to close out the show.

"Flashin' lots of cash and spendin' lots-o-loot...

He's half man and half cartoon but good buddy don't be confused he's full blooded looney tune he's the skinny sweaty man in the green suit"

I suspect that in reality that 'device' is used a bit more than most would imagine.

Actually, I love RHCP. I have listened to them since I was 18.

It’s too bad that they are a bunch of left wing utter idiots, but so is just about every other band I’ve ever listened to.

Where’s Deep Purple? Why aren’t they in? Too many lineup changes?

I remember seeing these guys play on campus back when I was in school - loved "Mother's Milk" and "Blood Sugar Sex Magik". But that was a long time ago. By the time a band gets into the Rock & Roll HoF, their best days are at least a decade behind them.

Figures...

“I’ve got a bad disease
But from my brain is where I bleed.
Insanity it seems
Has got me by my soul to squeeze.

“Well all the love from thee
With all the dying trees I scream.
The angels in my dreams (yeah)
Have turned to demons of greed that’s mean.

“Where I go I just don’t know
I got to got to gotta take it slow.
When I find my piece of mind
I’m gonna give you some of my good time.”

RHCP lyrics from “Soul to Squeeze”

Didn’t their lead singer do time for attempted rape or something like that?

I was going to ask which Deep Purple?

Hush?
Machine Head?
Burn?

The Machine Head/Woman from Tokyo/Perfect Strangers lineup's the obvious one.

Must be an Ohio thing. The last time I lived in Ohio our little local radio station was absolutely in love with their records. They'd play them morning, noon and night. When I moved back to PA it took two more years to get that song unstuck from my head.
