Kids these days were sailing along through life just fine thinking that James Camerons 1997 epic Titanic was a grandiose, if cheesy, love story set on a fictional ship, but with all the news of the disasters 100th anniversary came the iceberg of truth and embarrassing admissions such as this one: I didnt know Titanic actually happened, thought it was just a film.
Thats a real tweet, and there have been more like it this month. Enough, in fact, that a Tumblr feed has been created to collect them all.
Nobody told me titanic was real...? How am I just finding this out?! one young woman tweeted about a week before the 100th anniversary of the 1912 tragedy in which more than 1,500 people died.
For others, realizing that the movie was actually based on a real event brought home the potential dangers of seafaring voyages. The titanic was real holly s--- im never gooing on a cruise, a young man tweeted on April 6.
While several young people have expressed their surprise after learning the truth and left it at that, some have acknowledged that their ignorance might be, well they have an inkling that its probably not good.
As one Twitter user wondered on April 2: Is it bad that I didnt know the titanic was real?
Most people would probably answer that yes, it is bad. That would include one of the many who responded on Twitter by saying they were weeping for the future.

What would one expect from the twits on Twitter?
One would be hard pressed chasing a short bus to find a greater concentration of retards.
The young people who voted for Obama have been discovered...
I read somewhere else recently that a woman vacationing in Halifax visited a cemetery where some Titanic victims were buried.
She witnessed several young ladies sobbing at the grave of one “J. Dawson,” whom they sincerely believed was the Leonardo DiCaprio character from the movie.

Ask your Great Grand Parents
Ask your Grand Parents.
Ask any senior citizen.
Read History books at the Library.
Turn off the LibDem talking idiots.
What do they know about Hitler?
He was a Republican and a KKK Grand Dragon who killed 6 billion black people by reading the Bible to them.
That he was a right wing conservative.
Also, tax cuts. For the rich JooooooooBanksters.
Didn't visit the cemetery in Halifax where the Titanic victims are buried but did visit the Maritime museum where several artifacts from the Titanic are displayed, including deck chairs.
As long as we're striving for persnickety historical accuracy here, let me point out that she was RMS Titanic, not "HMS".
Stands for "Royal Mail Steamer", just so's ya know.
Did not exist. The ill-fated, unsinkable-but-sunken ship was the Royal Mail Ship (RMS) Titanic. "RMS" designates a ship contracted with the Royal Mail to carry mail.
(His|Her) Majesty's Ship (HMS) designates a naval warship.
I’d be happy if I never heard the name “Titanic” again.
The vast majority of “kids” these day know only how to have sex, smoke pot and push buttons on a computer or sing a few words from popular song. They could care less what happened even ten years ago.
That he started the first world war when he had Germany bomb Pearl Harbor in 1926.
Me too. I still can’t get that darned phrase, “As silly as rearranging deck furniture on the Titanic”, out of my head, P_B.
Consider: If you look at college as a trade school, science and engineering is the top of the heap,
premed a little farther down,
business admin and prelaw about mid slope,
liberal arts, such as English Lit, for those that want to stay on campus for a lifetime,
then comes journalism,
and in the soggy swamp at the bottom, education majors, and knee deep in the bog, coaches.
These are the mouth breathers who love communism, and teach you children.
‘HMS’ refers to British warships that are owned by the Crown. The Titanic was a Royal Mail Ship and thus was ‘R.M.S. Titanic’.
I was watching a show on a religious channel where the guy asked people questions as he walked down the road. He was asking mostly high school and college age kids if they knew who Adolph Hitler was. I was amazed and disgusted by how many of these kids didn’t know who Hitler was. Less then 50% of the kids knew who he was. That should tell every American how big a failure public education is.
That the Bush family financed his rise to power--yes, I have read that on the Internet. Therefore WWII was Bush's fault.
You mean the USS Titanic.
He is a reasonably good actor with a long career in Hollywood.
That he stole the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections?
In Canada political correctness has taken over to an extent. Much, much history on the awful things done to our indigenous people (First Nations). I believe things multi-cultural are mentioned. This could be, but to be honest I don`t know, the exploitation of the poor chinese labourers over a 130 years ago. Railway workers, whose life was cheap. Died by the dozen. So was the white working class, sez I.
As a rite of obligation, the terrible carnage of Vimy Ridge has received full reconition. Over a 1000 Canadians slaughtered over a few acres of French countryside in 1917. Lots of young people there, all very solemn and respectful. This on a massive pilgrimage to France.
I have suddenly thought positively about young people. Someone has to talk to them. Good thinking. What has got into me- thinking positive of young people.
The RMS TITANIC was a Royal Mail Steamer [=RMS] that carried passengers in commercial service. HMS (His/Her Magesty’s Ship) is a warship. RFA (Royal Fleet Auxiliary) are the logistics vessels that support HMS afloat.
I have news for this guy the Titanic wasn't a cruise ship as we know them today. It was along with many other ships the main means of travel around the world at the time. There was no air travel as we know it today and vehicular travel was in its very early stages transitioning from horse to internal combustion.
