Opponents of racial profiling are capitalizing on national outrage over the murder of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, using the case to rally support for a bill banning the practice from all U.S. law enforcement agencies.
More than 225 organizations, including the NAACP and the National Council of La Raza, submitted testimony in advance of a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing on the issue today, said Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who called the hearing earlier this month.
A bill introduced in October by Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.) would ban racial profiling by law enforcement officials, including neighborhood watch groups. George Zimmerman, who shot and killed Martin in February, was a neighborhood watch volunteer.
Civil rights groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, argue that Martin, an unarmed teenager, was murdered because he was black.
Zimmerman, who said he acted in self-defense under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, was charged last week with second-degree murder.

From my take on this case they were correct in profiling this punk.
I would think that Treyvon would be the poster child for why profiling is the right thing to do.
The ACLU supports laws against predatory, racist criminals who racially profile their victims before they assault, rape, rob and murder them?

No, I think it means that before you are mugged, you are to ignore the signs of impending attack (gathered gang of youts wearing hoodies staring at you), because that would be profiling. It would be an especially bad instance of profiling if you took defensive measures that might inconvenience your probable assailants based on their appearance or actions, even though those have been correlated with previous aggressive behavior.
So the criminals are trying to taek away the best tool for finding criminals. I’m not at all surprised.
If they don’t watch out the only recourse left to us non-minorities will be the midnight lynch mob. And I don’t think a one of us will have a problem with it at that point.

what amazes me, is there’s so many times you’ll see a mob of a few dozen people from from the black community ransack a Walgreen. I can guarantee you that pretty much everyone of those looters feels victimized that they may be looked at with suspicion from time to time when go shopping. They don’t consider how they are making it so much more difficult for the millions of law abiding honest blacks in the USA.
Likewise, great law-abiding black men like Cain, Thomas, or West, are not out there screaming what victims they are.
In other words, no law enforcement for black criminals....that seems...uh....fair.
The problem with what they are trying to do is that it is unconstitutional.
"Neighborhood watch groups" are NOT law enforcement officials.
Why does the bill claim that "neighborhood watch groups" are "law enforcement officials"?
Because the Fourteenth Amendment applies to states:
No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Therefore, they need to pretend that neighborhood watch groups are part of the state government. (The Commerce Clause under current Supreme Court doctrine would not cover neighborhood watch groups.)
This, like ObamaCare, is another attempt to put another brick in place toward what ultimately will be a totalitarian central government with comprehensive power to regulate all activities of all private citizens, far removed from any local accountability.
I wonder if this is a home invasion issue.

Who is a “neighborhood watcher”?
Just a private citizen who tells his neighbors that if he or she sees suspicious activity in the neighborhood, he or she intends to call the police.
What would be the effect of a law making it a FEDERAL CRIME for a private citizen to “racially profile” a person during the course of reporting suspicious activity?

think of all the major cities like NY LA Chicago Miami where there are active squatter efforts.
Think of the government now owning the home mortgage industry.
And now we have a prosecutor who files charges JUST to file charges. Any other lawyer who does that would be disbarred.

I agree. It will be like last time in the 1960s and the black power movement. More than 90% of casualties were black people.
