Secret Service Agents Took 20 Women To Colombian Hotel, Says Senator Susan Collins says director is pursuing 'vigorous internal investigation' as scandal triggers scrutiny of agency's culture

Karen McVeigh 17 April 2012 At least 20 women were brought back to a hotel in Colombia by secret service agents and military personnel who are now under investigation into allegations of misconduct involving prostitutes, according to a US senator.

Speaking after she was briefed by the director of the secret service, Susan Collins, the top Republican on the Senate homeland security committee, said on Tuesday: "There are 11 agents involved. Twenty or 21 women foreign nationals were brought to the hotel, but allegedly marines were involved with the rest."

A spokesman for the secret service told the Guardian that it had revoked the top security clearances of the 11 employees, who have been placed on administrative leave and can no longer access official facilities. A number of military personnel, believed to be as many as 10, were also allegedly involved in misconduct at the hotel in Cartagena where President Barack Obama was due to stay ahead of a summit.

A US official told Reuters on Monday that more than 10 military service members may have been involved.

The incident, which overshadowed Obama's visit to the summit in Colombia, has triggered scrutiny of a culture where, according to the Washington Post, married secret service agents joke during aircraft take-off that their motto is "wheels up, rings off". It has also prompted questions about discipline and leadership in the service.

Worked these details for 21 years.... After the vip departs it was a wheels up party. Never beforehand. Afterwards we enjoyed the local attractions etc...

If we messed up while on travel we would have been banned from personal security details an supporting the technical services division of the USSS.

Show yer ass an they will kick it !

Can't speak for all men, but the SS HAS to be a cut above. The HAVE to know what they do is literally the most important job in the world, protecting the President. If they are "party dudes", they have no business being SS.

God forbid any POTUS was assassinated because of some lame-ass security breech.

Don't these guys get briefed about things like this? It has to come up in training.

“One can try to justify it all he wants, but the fact remains that a man who would step out on his wife is a man who cannot be trusted with anything of value.”

You didn't get the memo? You can't talk this way in 2012; moral relativism and all that. What they do with their personal life is none of anyone’s business and doesn't impact their professional life anyway, oral sex is not really sex, it depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is...

from my sources, this behavior is nothing new

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall behind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

It was ever thus, and ever will be. Yawn.

Really? ANd which sources are those.... current secret service agents???

I have carried a security clearance for most of my career. I am not part of the secret service. The rules are VERY CLEAR when I travel (particularly over seas) I MUST report every contact that I have. I am debriefed thoroughly when I return.

These yahoos are either the dumbest drunks around or something else is going on that is very very scary

Really??? And your experience as a secret service agent is exactly what???

I thank you for your service. Marines are a unique species that I grant but don’t think that everyone else has the morals of the Marines you knew

And still the Drive-By Media has never looked into Barry's Wild Limo Ride in Gurnee in 1999. Since Barry is now the leader of the dysfunctional and party-hardy GSA and incompetent party-hardy USSS, he was simply ahead of his time when he was a lowly Ill-Annoy legislator.

Really???? Are you a secret service agent??? Do you carry a security clearance in any of your work?? Or are you like Bradley Manning and carry a clearance and totally disregard it?

There are folks who take their clearances seriously and treat them with the appropriate behavior. Not everyone has the morals of slimy alley cats

I'm hoping it's just burned-out drunks after too many deployments. Just hoping, mind you, but that's not what I think is more likely -- another corrupt agency.

Look at the crap the GSA has done. At one time, they were the penny pinchers who drove every bid to the minimum.

You may know Marines. You may have the same slimy morals as the alley cats that roam the garbage filled streets of any give port. But you do NOT know ‘the breed’. In fact you would never qualify to be part of the breed.

I still find this hard to believe, unless they lowered their hiring standards drastically.

Could be that Obama-influenced cronyism in hiring eroded the character and professionalism of the SS, assuming this conduct was not common practice under other administrations as some Freepers seem to imply.

I could believe that as it was not common practice. They were really creme de la creme.

...married secret service agents joke during aircraft take-off that their motto is "wheels up, rings off".

And when their wives find out, it's "pick up phone, call divorce attorney, and rake cheating husband over the hot coals" time. Stupid, stupid men.

How’s that song go? “...my alcoholic friends where the party never ends...”

If this was SOP then it would have never been exposed.

That sounds just like what the agents were doing with the hookers.
