Yes, much better to have a Muslim as president...

You know, over the past 5 years I've spent a fair amount of time discerning how Mormon worldviews intersect with a ruinous White House...

You Obama "closet" Muslim types are forever lazy around here...

I've probably seen umpteen hundred references around FR to Obama being a "closet" Muslim...and ZERO attempts to actually document that.

You posters make FR look bad as being rumor-mongers.

I think it'd be fairly easy to prove that Obama caters to Muslims just on the basis of what he's done since becoming POTUS. But that he is one?...put your lazy mind into gear and prove it.

“But that he is one?...put your lazy mind into gear and prove it.”

Ok, challenge accepted. To Muslims, the defining point of whether someone is a Muslim or not is whether they have taken “shahada”, or made a public proclamation of faith in Allah and his prophet, Muhammed. In March, 2007, in an interview with Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times, this took place:

“Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent.”

Now, what are the opening lines of the call to prayer (the Adhan)? They are:

“Allah is greater. I testify that there is no deity except Allah. I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”

The simple form of the “shahada” profession of faith is:

“There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

So, the opening lines of the call to prayer ARE a form of the shahada, and by reciting them publicly, Obama fulfilled the basic requirement to become a Muslim, if he had not done so before that time.
