Nashua, NH is 50 miles from Boston. The moose tend to live up near the Canadian border.

We live up here because we moved out of states like NY where we were over taxed and surrounded by liberals.

I can't help asking if you moved out of a state like NY, or did you actually move out of NY? There's a big difference there. For example, given the option of paying an extra $3k in taxes on every $100k I make in return for living with a half hour of NYC, with everything NYC has to offer (and where I can make significantly more money), picking NY seems like a no-brainer to me. Plus, our winters are MUCH more tolerable. OTOH, you couldn't PAY me to live in Boston, which is unquestionably the most overrated mid-sized city in this country. And, incidently, I moved out to Westchester ten years ago. I'm mostly surrounded by Republicans.

I moved from western NY back in 1985 straight out of college. I have been in southern NH ever since. This is actually a very nice area. Low crime, low taxes, low unemployment, good schools, close to ocean, mtns, Boston, major airports, etc. Nashua was rated twice by Money magazine as the best place to live in the country. There are a lot of high tech jobs in this area. We also have very few minorities(less than 9%). It is difficult to stay on welfare in NH. If you live here, you need to get a job. If you want to be a slacker you move to Mass or RI.

Until recently NH was a conservative state. Over the last 10 years it has become more liberal as retirees have moved here and brought their fiscally irresponsible attitude with them.

The quality of life is actually pretty good here in comparison to a lot of places in our country. I live 8 miles from my office in a house that is on 2.5 acres where I very rarely lock my doors. My keys are in my truck out in the parking lot right now. You can buy a 2000 sq ft house around here for $200-$325 depending on where you want to live. Also, we have NO sales tax or income tax. The property taxes on my house are $7300/year.

The only thing wrong with NH is that the winters are about one month too long. The closer you are to the ocean , the milder the winter. However, based on last winter , I should not complain.

The only other area I would consider moving to is eastern CT, near the RI border. I is also a nice area. Not too close to the cities but not too far away. I am talking around New London near Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos. It is a world away from western CT. It is not that crowded yet you can be on the water in 15-30 minutes.
