Some of those were done in the name of Christianity, and Christians who opposed those policies were a bit thin on the ground, if they existed at all. It makes Jews a bit gunshy about trust.
It is in that jumble of ideologies that I call “Americanism” that we Jews have found a safe haven.
There is no branch of Christianity, other than Anabaptism, that does not have, somewhere in its history, some guilt of oppressing Jews - in places other than the United States of America. Why not America? Because even Christianity is different in America and a part of Americanism.
Sadly, very few of my people that I know consider the Muslims as an enemy.
