Montana's Governor Schweitzer(D): "Romney’s father from ‘polygamy commune’ in Mexico"
Helena Independent Record ^ | 4.21.12 | Mike Dennison

Posted on 04/21/2012 4:44:33 PM PDT by tuckrdout

.Gov. Brian Schweitzer, talking Friday to a national news website, said Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney might shy from talking about his family’s Mexican roots because they came from a “polygamy commune” in Mexico.

Schweitzer made the remark in an interview with The Daily Beast, a news and opinion website, after being asked whether Montana might be a swing state during this year’s 2012 election.

According to The Daily Beast, Schweitzer said Montana likely would vote for Romney, but that Romney, a Mormon, might have trouble nationally because his father, George Romney, was “born on a polygamy commune in Mexico.”

Schweitzer, a Democrat, said later that he wasn’t misquoted, and that his comments had nothing to do with Romney’s faith or his church, which does not condone polygamy.

Schweitzer said he was describing the dilemma facing Romney, who is in trouble with Hispanic voters because “he took an ultra-right-wing position on immigration during the (Republican) primary.”

Romney is a liberal because of his mormonism, try and keep up.

So Utah, with 60 percent Mormon population, shouldn't be the one of the most reliable conservative states because Mormons are liberals???

Care to explain that conundrum?

Because that's one of the most idiotic statements on this or any other forums.

Why should it have been the responsibility of "Mormon leaders" to "break up" civil arrangements?

(It wasn't...you're the one claiming 1890 was some kind of magical absolute ban across the board...I'm simply pointing out, "No, it wasn't"

To declare, boldly, that "Mormons believe" this or that, is to paint with much too broad of a brush, in my opinion.

OK...then OFFICIAL Mormonism teaches...(how's that for you?)

Mormons, themselves, are probably the best arbiter of this matter. Here is a bit from a Mormon website, as regarding the matter at hand: "President Gordon B. Hinckley, prior president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made the following statement in 1998 about the Church's position on plural marriage:

Oh, honey. I decided to see who you are and read some of your past comments. Seems that the best thing for all who read your “comments” is to ignore you.
So here goes - ignored!

...you support mormonism which at its foundation is anti-Christian.

Mister, it's YOU that's slinging unfounded accusations that makes you look like a ass. I don't mind a vigorous debate but I draw the line to insults. Search through my post history and I dare you to come with anything that says I'm a Mormon or Anti-Christian.

Maybe UN Christlike behavior, because I don't turn the other cheek to fools and people who knowing spread lies as if it was the truth.
You don't know ANYTHING about my religious views yet YOU willingly BEARING FALSE WITNESS, calling me anti-Christian without knowledge of who I am. IF anyone here is anti-Christian, just look in the mirror.

I've defended many religions of which I'm not a member. Because I know there are real hostile forces out there fighting against people of religious convictions. They would love nothing more than to have us fighting among ourselves while they kick faith to the curbside

So continue playing the Moook for them. In the end it will only help them win.

As for other former candidates...You claimed Romney's religion made him a flipfloper so I asked; Did other pols religion make them act as well? A fair question to ask. Since it's your theory, not mine. I believe it was the lack of convictions and their willingness to appease certain voter blocks, not religion.

Keep bringing up straw-men and lunging at shadows. Eventually you punch yourself out.

The Democrats and the GOP sure think so.

They may not be YOUR version of conservatives, but then you label them as "liberals" which would surprise the Hell of out folks at NOW, NAACP, ACLU and GLAAD.

Of course maybe anyone not to the far right of John Birch Society are "pinkos" to some here on this thread...

But what do I know, I'm an "Anti-Christ" according to some people here.

No, Montana does not have a “high” mormon population. Most people follow the religion of “one”, their selves. But, it is mostly Catholic and Lutheran here in the state. The Baptists are making a push here though.

Never said you were a mormon, I said you were defending mormonism.
I said mormonism is founded on anti-Christian doctrine.
You deny that apparently.
Let me show you then:
“Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the “whore of Babylon” whom the Lord denounces.
- Apostle Orson Pratt The Seer, Vol.2, No.4, p.255
[There is] “no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190).
“He that confesseth not that Jesus has come in the flesh and sent Joseph Smith with the fullness of the Gospel to this generation, is not of God, but is anti-christ” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 9, p.312).
What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world. (Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Joseph Fielding Smith, p. 270)
“The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God” (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:171)
[There is] “no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God” Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190
Well, maybe you don’t find objection with the foundation of mormonism, who knows,

I said mormonism is founded on anti-Christian doctrine. You deny that apparently.

I deny nothing but those who would deny the right of free exercise of one's chosen faith as long as it doesn't use violence.

Whatever doctrines Mormons, Jews, Baptists, Catholics their conscience allows isn't my business unless they try to force it upon me and others.

As for this "whore of Babylon" business. The pope thought of Martin Luther(the original one)was the Anti-Christ and Luther in turn, spoke of the pope as the Anti-Christ as well. So nobodies hands are clean in this "Mine faith is closer to God than thys". So please stop reciting tiresome doctrine to me. I'd say this to preachy Mormons as well. It has inspires no effect but the urge to skip the "cut and paste" lectures.
