Montana's Governor Schweitzer(D): "Romney’s father from ‘polygamy commune’ in Mexico"
Helena Independent Record ^ | 4.21.12 | Mike Dennison

Posted on 04/21/2012 4:44:33 PM PDT by tuckrdout

.Gov. Brian Schweitzer, talking Friday to a national news website, said Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney might shy from talking about his family’s Mexican roots because they came from a “polygamy commune” in Mexico.

Schweitzer made the remark in an interview with The Daily Beast, a news and opinion website, after being asked whether Montana might be a swing state during this year’s 2012 election.

According to The Daily Beast, Schweitzer said Montana likely would vote for Romney, but that Romney, a Mormon, might have trouble nationally because his father, George Romney, was “born on a polygamy commune in Mexico.”

Schweitzer, a Democrat, said later that he wasn’t misquoted, and that his comments had nothing to do with Romney’s faith or his church, which does not condone polygamy.

Schweitzer said he was describing the dilemma facing Romney, who is in trouble with Hispanic voters because “he took an ultra-right-wing position on immigration during the (Republican) primary.”

Needs a fix:

"Romney's father from 'polygamy commune' in Mexico"

Should read:

"Romney's Obama's father from 'polygamy commune' in Mexico Kenya.

You have to wonder about Schweitzer (D-MT), there are a lot of Mormons in Montana, maybe he figures he won't get their vote on the next go-round anyway..

Jesus was very hard on the Pharisees, accusing them of hypocrisy and of being children of the Devil for their lying ways. The Pharisees also accused Jesus of many heinous things, in particular being a liar. Problem was that factually, Jesus had the better case. For example, why they never proved a lie in Jesus, they demonstrated their own propensity for lying by throwing together that kangaroo court, complete with hastily assembled false witnesses, running a malicious prosecution to get a false conviction. So from your point of view, is there a moral equivalency between Jesus and the Pharisees? Or was one right and the other wrong?

I only ask because your whole argument seems based on the principle of moral equivalency between any two religions. Not that I know anything about where you actually stand. I don’t. But I do know (or I should say believe) that this moral equivalency approach is mainly postmodern hokum designed to attack the belief in truth itself, i.e., the notion that some things are true and the opposite of those things are false. Aristotle’s great gift to logic, the principle of non-contradiction, is a great obstacle to the left’s demographic strategy of eternally warring micro-factions, and it is fought with vigor, and not the least weapon in that fight is the idea that all belief systems are created equal, when in fact they are not.

True, all humans come gifted by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, but their beliefs are subject to peer review and criticism, and voting is a great mechanism for doing just that. For example, Marxism is a discredited belief system, entailing what amounts to religious adherence to a particular view of how the world works, and Obama and company will, hopefully, be roundly critiqued this fall for their bizarre utopian fantasies.

So my question to you is this: Is there a moral equivalency there? Are free markets and Marxist totalitarian/utopian impulses equally defensible? No? Then why not be free to compare any other pair of contrasting, mutually exclusive ideas? Why not be free to express our own beliefs about those ideas at the voting booth? Is your definition of bigotry really so broad it encompasses the free exercise of critical thinking skills?

Let this be a lesson to you.

You dragged this debate down to a personal level.

Don't accuse me of being a liar and spreading falsehoods about me. I don't take kindly to being called a "liar"

I won't stand for it.

Before “svcw’ dragged this debate down to a personal level, it was liviely but civil debate.

He accuse me of being a liar and "of pimping" and started to spread falsehoods about me. I don't take kindly to being called a “liar”

I won't stand for it.

Anyone who starts a fight and hits below the belt shouldn't whine about "dirty fighting"

So kindly keep your opinions to yourself until you know the whole story....

So my question to you is this: Is there a moral equivalency there?

Hard question. I can't judge whether or not there is "moral equivalency" for others but I believe(for me)my faith in the Blood that was shed at Calvary for my sins is greater, has withstood thousands of years, good times and bad. It has lifted me up when I was down and tempered me in times of temptation. I know I am a weak vessel, unworthy of the sacrifice but still I tried to follow His Way.

This is as far I was will comment as my faith is personal, not for public consumption.

I read all the posts between the two of you, and not once did svcw call you a liar.

They said "apparently" when making a statement, if you inferred "liar" that is on you.

Regardless, your statement was vile and not worthy of a man who later talks about the cross.

psst svcw is a woman, if that matters to you one way or the other, all you would have had to do is read her profile to know that, apparently not worth the effort.

I don't take kindly to being called a “liar”

Living on a farrm, squealing pigs don't bother me but if one bites me I ain't above getting down in the mud and open his throat.

I've done it (literally and figuratively)
and I'll do it again if need arises.

I think certain people know it now....

Before he made it personal I never directed any insults to him personally.

Here are svcw posts

You want to pimp him, be my guest, just stop lying about it.

"you support mormonism which at its foundation is anti-Christian."

He's called me "lying", a "pimp" i.e. Mormon, and "unchristian" all because I won't knuckle under and agree with him and others that Romney as unfit to be president because of his(not mine) faith.

You can mince words all day long but where I was raised saying somone is 'pimping' are slanderous insults.

That's right! When a man like her continues to make lame idiotic and false accusations, it's not worth the effort.

It might be easier if you stopped using two screen names, you are beginning to mix up your thoughts.
Good bye to you and your alter ego.
The statement was vile no matter how you slice it.

Your chastisement would have more meaning if you didn't throw around baseless accusation without shred of proof required.

But now it just rings hollow.

Bearing False Witnesss means nothing to you, does it?

No more sermons from you...

Obama’s father was an anti-American Marxist. And a polygamous tribesman from Kenya. Your point then,... Schweitzer(D)?

Great choices we have this November. /s

One can vote as one likes. Nobody knows how one votes for a candidate once the the voting booth's curtains closes .

But as I have said before there are many reasons why(as an conservative) one would choose not to cast a ballot in his favor.(His flip-flopping stances on abortion, gun control, taxes, homosexuality and same sex marriages)

Some are actually against Mormon teaching as I understand them.

Unless there is some super secret plan for Mormons to take over the government and make everyone Mormons at gunpoint, voting against him just because of his religion is in fact, the classic definition of bigotry.

Just as there people on the Left who won't vote him, or any Baptist, Methodist or any other true believing Christians, just because of anti-Christian bigotry.
