The TSA is Inept
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 22 April 2012 | Debra Burlingame

Posted on 04/22/2012 12:12:19 PM PDT by LSUfan

We Must Assure Our Skies Are Both Safe and Friendly

Kip Hawley, the Transportation Security Administration's former administrator, fails to acknowledge a November 2011 congressional report documenting that the TSA has become a bloated, 65,000-person bureaucracy larger than the departments of Labor, Energy, Education, Housing and Urban Development, and State, combined ("Why Airport Security Is Broken—And How to Fix It," Review, April 14). It has spent $57 billion since 2002, $2.7 billion of which was spent on training. Yet half of the people it has hired and trained have left the agency. With the highest attrition rate among the federal work force, the TSA has resorted to placing employment ads in the Washington, D.C., area on pizza boxes and over the pumps at discount gas stations.

The report notes that 25,000 security breaches have taken place at U.S. airports since 9/11. According to the Government Accountability Office, 17 known terrorists have flown on U.S. carriers on 24 occasions, including traveling through eight airports where behavior-detection officers are deployed—a program that has spent $800 million since 2007 and will cost $1.2 billion more over the next five years. While not one terrorist has been spotted, the TSA has justified the expense by citing the discovery of passengers involved in common crimes, such as credit-card fraud or drug smuggling, resulting in mission creep and the pervasive sense that anyone who approaches the check point is a potential suspect.

Ms. Burlingame is a co-founder of 9/11 Families for a Safe & Strong America and the sister of Capt. Charles F. Burlingame, III, pilot of American Airlines Flight 77.

I hope someone is able to dig up the video of Senator Schumer (Demagogue, NY), advocating the federalizing of airport security because they would then be much more professional.

I lay all the civil and human rights outrages perpetuated by
the TSA at Senator Schumer’s feet.

I can understand this. Normal people really don't feel right molesting toddlers and little old ladies in wheel chairs while at the same time, waving ragheads through. It just isn't right. Political correctness isn't right.

I once saw some former TSA bigwheel on tv say that this screening hell we are subjected to does not improve safety, and actually, these procedures were designed only to make us FEEL SAFE.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t feel safe. More like annoyed.

I was randomly selected for the swipe test last week, and apparently tested positive for explosives.

Apparently it was my “beauty aids” in TSA speak. They also said that it wouldn’t detect gunpowder residue (a lie) and that many IEDs could be made with household products and beauty aids.

I didn’t feel safer based on their response.

The first Tuesday in November will answer your question one way or the other.

“The first Tuesday in November will answer your question one way or the other.”

I’m sure not putting my hope in that day.

I fly several times a year. The TSA (with few exceptions) are average to low IQ drones and worse. I always “opt out” of the xray thingee. It irritates the drones no end. I smile when they feel me up and give me the bad massage. LOL.

Oh yes, beauty aids.

Close friend and I went through security. My friend’s bag was put aside and hand searched because “something didn’t look right on the screen.” They couldn’t identify some cylindrical shape in her bag. So the agent rooted around the bag and pulled out this dangerous object — a mascara wand! LOL.

I did the same thing. The high school dropout who told me I’d been selected for random screening wasn’t pleased when I told him “no x-ray, go ahead and grope my junk if thats what you want to do.”

I posted it here repeatedly. The TSA is designed to de-senstitze Americans to being treated like cattle. Today airports. Tomorrow, shopping malls and eventually private office buildings. The Government needs to get the slaves used to be groped and prodded without resistance.

We cannot solve America’s problems at the ballot box. We are too far gone. We all know what the real solution is.

Airport security at Heathrow in 1991 was a lot better than Logan in 2006, and the British did it humanely, sensibly, with a touch of humo(u)r and courtesy. The TSA is boorish, stoopid and overreaching.

Have you ever met a TSA employee that didn’t look like he was turned down at Walmart and McDonalds?

Last month I flew from Newark to London wearing a foot brace. The brace had metal stays on both sides, along the back and front. I went thru the machine and it did not go off. As I was waved through, I said I was surprised my foot brace did not set off any alarm. They security guy said “oh you’re wearing a brace, stop right there” and motioned for a women with a wand to check me. I said to him “I should have just kept my mouth shut about the brace, huh?” his reply was “yea, you should have. We would have never known”. I was wanded, had my foot felt up and was allowed through security.

Real secure, aren’t we?
