The Republican Party establishment has withstood the tea-party revolution.

The tricorne-hat wearing, Gadsden-flag waving insurgents were nowhere near the Republican National Committee’s annual meeting of state chairman, which wrapped up at a posh resort here Saturday afternoon.

Instead, veteran party leaders — who wore business suits even in the 100-degree heat — reigned supreme.

The 2012 meeting of the Republican national command shows just how little has actually changed in the Grand Old Party since the tea-party movement helped Republicans capture the U.S. House majority two years ago and announced that they were a powerful force in American politics.

While tea-party activists have won county chairmanships and seats on state central committees, few (if any) activists have clinched slots on the Republican Party’s 168-member governing committee.

Mitt Romney and 66 percent of them have a favorable opinion of him. It’s clear that he has a lot of support from Tea Party members and, since it’s still early, could still attract more when he starts campaigning for the general election. What do you think of that?

God bless Ron Paul. I don’t know how he can see domestic issues so clearly, and not see the threat of islam.

It’s not only the Fox News Poll, but others have Romney gaining support from the Tea Party, some of them in the upper 60-70 percent range. If you don’t want to believe the polls you would still have to admit that Tea Party members ARE supporting and voting for Romney. They have a high interest in the election and are not staying home. And a lot of them are not voting for Newt or else he would be in the lead.

The TEA Party was never a republican movement nor was it soley a Conservative movement. Now when you can produce some real data from the South that shows that Conservatives are backing romney... then I will pay attention and start calling my brethren out for their mistake.

unfortunately I think some tea party members may lack some principles, after all some wanted a drastic reduction in fed gov but you better not touch medicare/ss. And I am thinking they are more of the anyone but Obama, they are scared of another term and actually think they bring romney around kicking and scream..well they tried that with Boehner and the senate its not working out too good.

There is time it will not be pleasant doing the hard work but the alternative you advocate leads to nothing but ruin . The GOP elites got their by being able to work within the party.

Doing the destroy them now leads to bad blood in the party & that leads to defeat at the polls. Work needs to be done to convince the people that are represented by the party elitists that they are not being served they will do what must be done dubious attempts at black bag operations /smears will only hurt the effort.
