John Edwards’s favorability rating stands at a dismal 3 percent, according to a new poll released as the criminal trial of the former presidential candidate is set to begin on Monday.
His favorability has plummeted since 2007, when 30 percent of people had a positive view of him, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll. Meanwhile, his unfavorability rating has seen a spike from 30 percent in 2007 to 41 percent today.
Edwards — whose reputation was damaged after it was revealed that he had cheated on his wife Elizabeth Edwards (she eventually died after battling cancer) — has been charged with misusing campaign funds, and his trial is set to kick off in Greensboro, N.C., on Monday.

The new survey shows Edwards is viewed especially unfavorably by women, just 2 percent of whom have a positive view of him, compared to 45 percent who have a negative view.
Asked about the first thing that comes to mind when they hear the name “John Edwards” other than his bid for the White House, 30 percent said they associate the name with him cheating on his wife.
Still, half of those polled said they are undecided or don’t have an opinion about Edwards, while almost four in 10, 39 percent, said they couldn’t associate Edwards’ name with anything — both indications that the general public may have little interest in or knowledge of his trial.
The CBS News/New York Times poll was conducted April 13-17 among 957 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
Still, half of those polled said they are undecided...
That would be the hos who are the mothers of his three other out of wedlock children.
I never cared for John Edwards, but the crimes he is being accused of seem rather small in the big game of Presidential politics, and compared to some of the things Obama, Clinton, etc... could have done.
I’m not trying to say “its OK, because everyone does it” - but it seems to me that he must have made some enemies in the Democrat Party who are now getting some payback.
I don’t even understand why they are polling this. Who the hell cares?!

3%? Not even the 12% of blacks who back ANYONE who’s democrat ( in the 90+% range) don’t back Edwards? That’s stunning.

He committed campaign law violations by diverting funds for personal payoffs. That’s pretty serious.
I'd say three percent is damn good for a sleazy, ambulance chasing, womanizing, ass kissing politician.

I think it’s hysterical beyond words that after years of manipulating juries and the courts, John “Two Americas” Edwards is in court being prosecuted.
