Sen. Charles Schumer said Tuesday he wants to overturn a Supreme Court ruling last year that allowed states to require businesses to make sure their workers are in the country legally and said Congress should also be prepared to overturn a possible future ruling favoring state enforcement of immigration laws.
Speaking at a hearing on Arizonas 2010 law cracking down on illegal immigration, Mr. Schumer said that Congress has repeatedly passed laws making clear that it, not the states, should have jurisdiction over immigration law. He said his legislation would reaffirm that stance.
I believe it is simply too damaging to our economy and too dangerous to our democracy to have 50 states doing 50 different things with regard to immigration policy, said Mr. Schumer, New York Democrat and chairman of the SenateJudiciary Committees immigration subcommittee.
The hearing came a day before the Supreme Court hears arguments on Arizonas contentious immigration law,

Chucky Schumer would have prevented the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Police from tracking down Lee Harvey Oswald!
Is in not joyful when we hear a Senator openly espousing opposition to the rule of law?
Just read a novel where one of the main character’s favorite expressions was, “When the Schumer hits the fan!”. Apropos!
Where do DemoKKKrats get the idea that latinos are for illegal immigration? None of the latinos I know are for it. Matter of fact they hate it. Have the DemoKKKrats ever heard of the word “competition”? Come to New York city where illegals are regularly employed in construction, road work, bridge repair, which BTW is all sanctioned by our despotic term limit ignoring Mayor and then ask unemployed latinos who came here legally what they think of “amnesty”.
If Schumer’s position is that states should not be enforcing Federal laws then I guess employers can stop collecting federal income taxes or forwarding the money to the Treasury.
Has it occurred to Schmucky Chucky that, out of desperation, the states are being forced to do something that the federal government has utterly failed to do?
if he thinks he can get 60 votes for that, let him try
When SCOTUS upholds Arizona's SB1070, the other states will pass a state law just like it. Then there will be 50 identical SB1070s. Swallow that Chuck.
Little Chuckie would scream like crazy if a Repub senator said that Congress should overturn Roe vs Wade. Chuckie is a real piece of work, and that ain’t a compliment
’I believe it is simply too damaging to our economy and too dangerous to our democracy to have 50 states doing 50 different things with regard to immigration policy,’ said Mr. Schumer”
Yes, we know Democrats prefer “democracy” (or national head-counting) to federalism. The Constitution doesn’t.
“Then there will be 50 identical SB1070s”
You’ve hit on precisely what puts the lie to Schumer’s claims. It wouldn’t be 50 different policies, as Arizona’s law took care to mirror federal law. Unlike, say, California’s “sanctuary cities,” all they’re doing is enforcing federal policy on the state level.
But they might as well not have bothered, since people like Schumer are gonna lie about it, just like they lied about it allowing cops to detain and interrogate brown skinned people whenever they feel like it.
Just proves that he has never read, really read, the 16 page SB1070.
We are a Republic Charlie -a Republic!
FU Schmuckie o Putz.
Same thing will happen over Voter ID.
How does this guy keep getting elected! I guess dead people vote in that state too...
Dead from the neck up.
