Ted Nugent pleads guilty to illegal AK bear kill

Rocker and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent pleaded guilty Tuesday to transporting a black bear he illegally killed in Alaska.

With his plea, Nugent followed through with a signed agreement he made with federal prosecutors earlier this month.

A judge approved the deal at a U.S. District Court hearing in the southeast Alaska town of Ketchikan. Nugent and his attorney participated by telephone.

Asked by Magistrate Judge Michael Thompson if the agreement was clear, Nugent responded: "It is with me, your honor."

The guitarist and singer, who also is an avid hunter, later apologized for his actions and said he would "never knowingly break any game laws."

According to the document, Nugent illegally shot and killed the bear in May 2009 on Sukkwan Island in southeast Alaska after wounding another bear in a bow hunt. The bow incident counted toward a state seasonal limit of one bear.

He offended The One. He's fortunate not to suddenly have a fatal case of "natural causes."

I may be vilified for this, but I love Ted Nugent. He may be a little over spoken and radical for some. But he does put his money where is mouth is. And in a testiment to his character, it would seem he took responsibility for his actions in this case.

Hunting is his passion. I do have to be objective, however. I have a feeling with the camera crews and legal things that go on with producing a documentary/show about hunting bears, I’d think someone knew or should have known the laws. That said, I would not have known and still do not know if the same applies to all game in AK or anywhere else.

If you wound a deer while hunting (besides admitting your not a good hunter) are you suppose to notify DNR and does that count for your tag limit? I wouldn’t have known.

This has to be the biggest waste of taxpayers money ever. One shot hits two animals and the Gov’t isn’t giving him a pass but the Blck panther case isn’t worth their time?

FU Obummer Regime. You will get your trial in Nov and you and your Commie Pinko cohorts will have a humiliating defeat.

Didn't they used to call that "Arkancide"?

So, from what I gather,

he shot and wounded one bear, it got away,
then he shot and killed another one,

and the “wounding” counted as his “limit” of one bear.

Sounds like an asinine, arbitrary application of the law.

Alaska? Sarah Palin's Fault!

At his concert in Grand Prairie, TX last Saturday night he said he wanted to help with the east Texas wild pig problem... by hunting them... from a helicopter... with a machine gun.

The man still rocks -- big time, and his commentary between songs was great!

This story will get bigger. Watch government agencies involve themselves in order to take away his right to bear arms as penalty. A fine will not do it for them. He will not respond in a manner that the statist will accept.

the law may be to force a hunter to track down his wounded prey.

Fish & Game is begging Alaskans to do their part and start shooting bear, before the moose are extinct; yet they go after Sweaty Teddy; nuts.

Funny thing is everybody I know who have bear bait stations, never follow regulations or do all the crap F&G wants people to do. Reason is F&G has so many rules to catch ya doing anything; people ignore the laws altogether. The only way you get caught is if you tell them where your bait station is as the rules say. Then too , not all F&G people are A-holes; many are really trying to improve game management in Alaska.

I'm sure Nugent knows this was all political anyway. I know any number of Alaskans that would have let him use their stands and none of this would have ever happened.

Nugent got ‘Arpaio’d’ while Zimmerman is getting ‘Nifonged’.

“he shot and wounded one bear, it got away,
then he shot and killed another one,”

“the law may be to force a hunter to track down his wounded prey.”

This whole case is political BS because someone didn’t like Uncle Ted’s politics.

He shot at a black bear and either grazed it or missed. They recovered the arrow and searched for, and didn’t find, a blood trail. Days later he shot and killed another black bear. The law they cited him with is less than 5 years old. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse to break it so Ted did the right thing and pled guilty.

Ditto.

Nugent has paid his penance for his wild past, and is now a good man with whom I would associate in normal life.

He is a great advocate of the 1st and 2nd Amendments. And he loves the 10mm cartridge--topping on the cake.

I consider myself a "good hunter"...and I know some "good hunters"....and we all have wounded deer.

If you hunt long enough...something will go wrong eventually. Especially if you bow hunt.

Just because you wound a deer...doesn't make you a bad hunter.

FWIW-
