Amid the crowded field of House candidates across the country in 2012, expect to hear a lot about Mia Love, a Republican who is an African American and a Mormon and who on Saturday defeated a handful of rivals to clinch the party nomination in the campaign for Utah's fourth congressional district. Love is preparing to face incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson. Victory in November would make her the first black Republican congresswoman in history.

In June of 1978, after spending much time in prayer, President Spencer W. Kimball received a revelation from the Lord which announced that all worthy male members of the Church could receive the Priesthood. The Lord revealed to President Spencer W. Kimball that the time had come, in His eternal providences, to offer the fullness of the gospel and the blessings of the holy priesthood to all men.
Since that time, the rise of Black Africans joining the Church has increased tremendously. Evidence of this was displayed in 1998 when Gordon B. Hinckley traveled to five different African countries and announced a temple to be built in Ghana. There he was welcomed by thousands of members who not only held the Priesthood but rejoiced at the news of having their own temple. President Hinckley was also the keynote speaker for the 1998 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People conference.

Last time I checked the First Amendment still read the same.
Last time I checked there is rarely any hoopla about all the other religions that congress critters ascribe.
But you guys just have to drag “all that Mormon stuff” into it...listen to her speech and see if that isn’t something to be excited...someone who believes in this day and age that each individual should pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and government should just back the hell off.
You might want to come in to the 21st century.

Love favors eliminating the Department of Education and the Department of Energy, and favors returning health care to the states.[8]
Love said that she favors “fiscal discipline, limited government, and personal responsibility.”[9]
At her college orientation, Love’s father told her: “Mia, your mother and I never took a handout. You will not be a burden to society. You will give back,” a philosophy she underscores on the trail and uses to sum up her conservative views.[10]
Love is pro-life, and supports domestic energy exploration, local control of education, Second Amendment rights, and state control of public lands.[11]
Love’s race has been the subject of much attention, as she is the first black woman mayor in Utah history. [12] She has said that if elected to Congress, she would “join the Congressional Black Caucus and try to take that thing apart from the inside out” and has described the Caucus as “”It’s demagoguery. They sit there and ignite emotions and ignite racism when there isn’t, They use their positions to instill fear. Hope and change is turned into fear and blame. Fear that everybody is going lose everything and blaming Congress for everything instead of taking responsibility.”[13]

Wow, just watched a bit of her speech. This lady is a dynamo.
Who cares what religion she is — she’s got it going on in terms of lesser government.

Not sure if you are serious, but the last I checked, Pres. Kimball came AFTER Pres. Young. Kimball's revelation was a direct response to the negative press and outcry from the black population on the suppression of the priesthood for black LDS members.
Pres. Kimball's revelation is in direct conflict with LDS doctrine that says that the black race are under the curse of Ham and/or the curse of Cain and are forbidden from the priesthood.
An early statement by Young about a priesthood ban in the LDS Church was made on February 13, 1849. The statement — which refers to the Curse of Cain as the reason for the policy — was given in response to the question, "What chance is there for the redemption of the Negro?" Young responded, "The Lord had cursed Cain's seed with blackness and prohibited them the Priesthood."

You’re absolutely right.
I’m a ex-mormon, and I find it bizarre that any black person could join a religion that has stated she is (their words) dark and loathesome, destined to be a servant to white mormons in the afterlife and denied the celestial kingdom solely because of her race, according to the mormon prophets, including Joseph Smith.
That said, if her bona fides are truly conservative, I would vote for her in a heartbeat. The only pause her religion gives me is how the mind works that accepts a faith that has been demeaning, beyond the pale, to her race.
If she’s conservative, she gets the job.
Relating to Romney, I’m not happy with any mormon being the leader of our country, but if he were a true conservative, I could shelve my grievance. But he’s not, and I won’t.
Anti-mormon, you could say. Anti-liberal, definitely. When I vote I figure I’m hiring for a company, and being conservative is the job requirement, no exceptions...and we can argue about God at the end of the day.

I am not a Mormon and never will be. I am not intimidated or threatened by them.
I am more concerned with extremist in the Muslim Religion and Radical Leftists (Environmental Religion, Anti-God Religion, Anti-American Religion, Communists, etc)
For the most part, practicing Mormons seem like clean, responsible contributors to society.
