ABCNews ^ | 4/24/2012 | Chris Moody

Amid the crowded field of House candidates across the country in 2012, expect to hear a lot about Mia Love, a Republican who is an African American and a Mormon and who on Saturday defeated a handful of rivals to clinch the party nomination in the campaign for Utah's fourth congressional district. Love is preparing to face incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson. Victory in November would make her the first black Republican congresswoman in history.

A Brooklyn-born Mormon convert, Love is a marathon-running mother of three and the daughter of Haitian immigrants who came to the United States with $10 in their pockets

The only pause her religion gives me is how the mind works that accepts a faith that has been demeaning, beyond the pale, to her race.

I feel the same way about blacks becoming muslims. For many blacks in the U.S., the history of slavery is the defining issue in their political make up, yet so many of them join a religion that was instrumental in the enslavement of their ancestors.

The lds-org denies that Jesus is the Creator, that everything was created THROUGH Him, BY Him and FOR Him.

Politically, the lds-org philosophy cannot ever be truly "conservative". Why? See my tagline.

But you guys just have to drag “all that Mormon stuff” into it...

I've heard her interviewed on the radio (don't have tv). Until seeing her picture here on FR a few moments ago, I didn't know she was black.

I was in agreement with everything I heard her say in the interview. If I lived in Utah, she would have my vote and support out on the streets. I believe she has revealed the "content of her character."

[ Heard on the Randi Rhodes show yesterday, that she “Rasied Taxes” as Mayor of whatever town.

Expect more to come out to discredit her. ]

Know old cow Rhodes said this it is probable this is the scenario:

She probably did raise ONE tax while lowering/eliminating SEVERAL others which lowered the overhead on Collecting taxes and saved the City a whole ton of money in their budget while also lowering the “effective tax rate” of that town.

But of Course Dims think that it would be raising taxes to come up with a FLAT Tax of 10% with no deductions. They of course would rail against it as “Raising Taxes” because it isn’t “Their kind of tax hike”.

DIM Logic: Simplifying the Tax Code = Raising Taxes (but only use this argument to bash the heads of your opponent) They “conveniently ignore” the fact that this can effectively LOWER the effective tax rate.

FROM WIKI:

During her time in office, Saratoga Springs has experienced considerable growth. When Saratoga Springs became incorporated in 1997, “it was as an agricultural oasis, with just two state roads and scarce infrastructure,” according to The Salt Lake Tribune with a population of 1,000. By 2008, the population was 18,000. Love was part of the city council that approved a transformation from the agriculture tax to municipal tax. She also worked with other city council members to cut expenses, reducing the city’s shortfall during the economic downturn from $3.5 million to $779,000. Saratoga Springs now has the highest possible bond rating for a city of its size: AA+

So basically it was a conversion of the tax from Ag to Urban and THIS is what “Rhandi Rhodes” is flipping a biscuit over????? SHE ALSO CUT EXPENSES!!!!

Expect the Libs to try to destroy her to “make an example of her” because she was never on the “Dummy crat Plantation”.

Love’s race has been the subject of much attention, as she is the first black woman mayor in Utah history. [12] She has said that if elected to Congress, she would “join the Congressional Black Caucus and try to take that thing apart from the inside out” and has described the Caucus as “”It’s demagoguery. They sit there and ignite emotions and ignite racism when there isn’t, They use their positions to instill fear. Hope and change is turned into fear and blame. Fear that everybody is going lose everything and blaming Congress for everything instead of taking responsibility.”

Oh NO she wants to become a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, In the same way Allen West wants to!!!!! To Take it DOWN!!!

GO LOVE GO!!!!

At this point I wouldn’t care if a conservative candidate believed that their God lived as a flea on the ass of an elephant in the middle of the Madrid Zoo and that after they die they will become an alien living on the planet Pandora.

What matters is the CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES of LIMITED GOVERNMENT, PROTECTING LIFE, THE RULE OF LAW, and NATIONAL DEFENSE (both at our borders and abroad).

Could care less if don’t believe in JESUS, (It would be very very nice if they did) But I wouldn’t withhold my vote for a this reason allowing a Socialist/Commie DIM (who would say they believe in “Social Justice Jesus”)to get in.

My BEEF with Romney is not that he is Mormon who believes that after he kicks the bucket he will live an eternity on Planet Kolob, my beef with him is all the blatant LIBERAL positions he has taken and his habit of “Getting along to play along” with the enemies of freedom.

I'd vote for her if she was on my ballot. She's more conservative than Mike Simpson who is my rep in Idaho.

I totally agree with you. However, we have a few folks here on FR who hold that any candidate for office must swear fealty to the Nicene Creed.

I hope a few of them will show up on this thread so they can demonstrate to you their ignorance.

We know the libs don’t let facts get in the way of their story.

I listen to lib talk radio enough just to get the talking points, can’t handle much more than that. They aren’t even entertaining.

?

Your reply is not pertinent.

I reject what Brigham Young said. He was wrong. But he did say it, and is part of the history of the church.

Yeah...been around FR a long time...since 1998 if I remember right....so well aware of the ebb and flow of opinions, the euphoria, the defeat and everything in between.
To me this is a good news story...a strong candidate going after an incumbent.
I am VERY VERY ANTI-INCUMBENT for almost all office holders. I will vote for anyone almost over an incumbent. Theory is they can’t be any worse and they aren’t yet corrupted by the system...
Basically you should serve your community a while as a political servant and then get back to the real life and someone else can perform that duty. It should not be a career! Term limits at every level would make me very happy and we would begin to see some light at the end of this tunnel created by an all-consuming power hungry monster.

“Check you history dude, you sound like a knuckle-dragger!”

Indeed, I recommend a thorough check of LDS history and their statements on black people, including those of Bruce McConkie.

I reject what Brigham Young said in General Conference. But he did say it, and the LDS people must own it.

LDS has nothing to do with this thread thank you very much.
This is about an opponent to an incumbent and I think she is a good candidate to remove another washington 6 term insider. Someday it will probably be her turn to be removed as the system in Washington is highly corrosive and corrupts most.

“The lds-org denies that Jesus is the Creator, that everything was created THROUGH Him, BY Him and FOR Him.”

where did you come up with that belief? i think you have been badly misinformed, or are confused in what you are reading.

Guess you disapprove of Ronald Reagan too. Like everything else, there is always a story behind the raw data.

Just discovered this woman. I hope she succeeds and blows away the DemocRat.

I also hope Romney beats Obama in November and I will work for that also. Its not that ROmney is so good, its that Obama is THAT BAD!!!
