There was a serious problem with 7-11s being robbed, at gun point, on a very regular basis.
Eventually, someone came up with the idea to post a big sign in the stores front wind, proclaiming in large, colorful print something to the effect that cops, armed with shotguns were hiding out in the stores.

Convience stores were also being regulary robbed at gunpoint in Dallas in the ‘60s (I think it was). The stores did NOT put up signs about cops being there.
Instead, two-way glass was put into the backroom doors and cops would sit there with their shotguns and watch the customers and counter. The local newspapers and TV stations ran numerous stories about the Dallas Police Shotgun Squad. .........Several would-be robbers were gunned down and that info quickly made the news. The robbers never knew if a cop would be at a store or not, so the once frequent robberies became less and less.
I knew the Texans are smarter. I lived in the Houston area for twenty years, and, learned that “rural” Texas was anywhere more than 5 minutes from downtown Dallas!
I miss Texas!
