NBC6 Zimmerman Edit Explanation
NBC Miami ^ | Wednesday, Apr 25, 2012

Posted on 04/25/2012 8:26:01 PM PDT by nickcarraway

On March 19 NBC6 ran a story on the phone call George Zimmerman made in connection with the Trayvon Martin case. In that story an error in editorial judgment was made in which a question from the operator was deleted which could have created the impression that Mr. Zimmerman’s statement may have been singling out Trayvon Martin because of his race. We take this incident very seriously and apologize to our viewers. After conducting an extensive investigation, we are putting a more stringent editorial process in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Funny how this happens only when they are caught!

What I want to know is if Trayvon felt threatened why didn’t he call 911?

Zimmerman was the fellow to call the cops

That’s about all I need to know.

Nope. Sorry.
There's only ONE reason that they would do something like that.
I'm NOT buying the, "Mistake," excuse.

Perhaps they're in CYA mode because they could be sued for defamation of character quite soon.

No, a very purposeful attempt was made to advance a certain narrative, one that came back to bite you.

Where is the apology to George Zimmerman?

I notice they did not explicitly apologize to Mr. Zimmerman.

I hope he sues the freaking pants off of them.

You’d think the practices they put in place years ago to prevent them from exploding pickup trucks would have been enough.

A lot of people are very hesitant to call 911 - they don’t want to over-react.

Martin had two other reasons not to call 911 - he was a tall strong athlete who ought to be able to take care of himself. And his last experience with the police - the school resource officers - he was the object of suspicion.

Even if he genuinely felt threatened, he was very unlikely to have called the police.

I don’t think he felt threatened though - he seems to have double back to meet up again with Zimmerman instead of high-tailing for home.

Any apology made in the passive voice is CYA. God forbid they say “we made a mistake,” oh no, “a mistake was made.” Nice and impersonal, almost as if the mistake made itsef. No responsibility.

Your apology is not accepted, and I do not buy your excuse.

I hope you get sued into oblivion, and I will never watch anything on an nbc channel, or abc for that matter, ever for any reason.

The entire statement was (re)written by lawyers, you can bank on that. Completely worthless, just like their broadcasts. I watch them in order to know and understand the enemy. Now, a good part of their nightly news is weather (which was almost never discussed on national news except for land-falling hurricanes, or tornadoes with fatalities years ago). Their purchase of the Weather Channel was certainly designed to give them tools to push the “climate change” agenda. You know that they are bad when ABC seems downright right-wing in comparison.

Your keen observation on passive voice is very helpful here. It really distances and weakens what it said...

Try using “passive voice” when you are caught doing something wrong at work with your boss, at home with your wife, or in court with a judge, and see how far that goes!
