Set the record straight...

I am not a Romney ite. But we have to defeat Obama in Nov. There is no turning back now...

Contributions are down for two reasons

A lot of us don’t have any extra money. 4 dollar gas. 5 dollar gas in some parts of the country.

and

A lot of people don’t want to root for Obama to win

A lot of people don’t want to root for Obama to win

That is the bottom line. The overwhelming, vast majority of conservatives/Republicans want the dog eater defeated. 95% of conservatives/Republicans are simply not going to understand or agree to a policy of not supporting the GOP nominee. They just aren't. Willard may make people queasy, we may have to hold our noses (again), but the alternative (Hussein) has proven himself as such a threat to the Republic that he must be defeated at all costs. This idea of not voting for the GOP nominee may be considered principled by some (and we can certainly respect those people who feel this way), but it isn't a view that is going to be able to support a large, active website/forum for very long. That viewpoint would be more something I'd expect to see on a small, niche website/forum.

It is going to be very hard to keep a large, active right of center/conservative forum going if during a national general election campaign people can't root for the GOP candidate (however piss poor he may be). Part of this is just a human nature thing. For partisan political folks like exists here on FR, most of us have our team (even when it's subpar) and cheer for it. A national general election is the Superbowl of politics, and I just can't see how, by the time we get to November, it is even possible to prevent the site from being dominated by political stories with the comments being almost 95% pro-Willard. Not because most any of us like Romney, but because the dog eater is so much worse. To actively try to stop this result would really have a be an intentional effort to shed the forum of many members and become more of a focused, niche site on the web.
