JR has repeatedly said that FR is not a debating society, we could never get anything done if we were just debating liberalism versus conservatism all day.

Do we really need to search for a position on abortion in daily discussion, or try to stop it?

If you like to merely debate the issues, then find a debating forum that has no political mission or goal.

I don’t know about you but I have actually changed peoples minds about things by debating them on this very site. Many of them in fact. Some of those debates were polite. others less so but either is FAR superior than the constant preaching to the choir that goes on here today IMHO.

I agree with this, however, I think most of us who are willing to vote for Romney agree with the conservative goals set out regularly on this forum. I know I do.

Those who have stated they are voting for Romney are NOT excited about it. We don’t think he’s a closet conservative or is planning to clean up his act. We have just decided that we think it is best for the U.S. to have him instead of Obama. That’s how we see it. We don’t think he’s all great or anything.

Our disagreement on FR lies with whether we should support Romney over and against Obama. Some want to; some want to write in Sarah or someone else; some want to leave it blank, just working downticket; maybe some will push for a Libertarian or American Independent or something similar.

I’d like to hear and discuss everyone’s ideas about what they want to do. I may nor may not agree with them; but I DON’T call their conservative beliefs into question.

As an object lesson I suggest we on FR start thinking NOW about 2016. We need ONE good electable conservative to rally behind. In 2008 and in 2012 the conservative vote was split.

Two points here. First, I don't understand the notion that these two actions are mutually exclusive. I remember when this was both a "debating society" and a place where grassroots action (e.g. protests) was organized, so I know that it's possible to do both. Second, what exactly are we "getting done"? Unless I'm missing something, the posters who used to organize real-world actions have either left or been marginalized.
