I'd like to ask an open question of any of the Mods or Jim or whoever would like to answer.

First a little background...I'm a relatively new guy here, I think I've been posting from time to time for a year or two, certainly not as long as most of you. A few months ago I posted something along the lines of “if Romney is the guy, I'll vote for him, dont like him but he's not Obama”...or something to that effect, dont recall the exact words, but generally the ABO thing. Jim let me know he didn't like it (very graciously, no hard feelings to him at all), and I decided just to back off from posts about the presidential race for a while. I've posted a few times since, but mostly just lurked and read.

So now, Romney for all intents and purposes has the nomination, and this place is getting torn apart, by two sides who both say they either cant or must vote for Romney. Both sides get more inflamed, and it goes on and on.

So my question is this: Why not just stop allowing threads/discussion about the presidential race for this election cycle? OK, you're saying, thats stupid. Just consider this for a second:
1. The official position of the website, as I understand it, is now that neither of the two candidates who have a real chance to win may be supported. No one would support Obama for sure, and we are not supposed to support Romney on FR.

2. Therefore, any discussion of the race in keeping with the guidelines of the site, would be to say negative things about either candidate. That is, you can freely bash Obama or Romney, but dont praise either. You can say FUMR or FUBO, but dont say vote for either.

So, unless we just need a daily thread for people to come in and vent and say FU to each and hear someone else say “right on”, I really dont see any benefit to such threads. Post the official position of FR on the front page, as Jim has done in the past, and save the threads for discussion of issues, local races, news events and such. It just seems like since everyone has their mind made up already, and the only acceptable position to proselytize is that of voting for NEITHER candidate, it would just save a lot of anger and heartache to say that and stop having running discussions were one group tries to see how close they can get to the “zot line” without getting fried, and the other group questions the conservative credentials of the first group.

FR is a great website, I've enjoyed it a lot since I first started reading and posting. It just seems like an awful lot of time and energy is wasted on a circular argument that is simply pissing everyone off. Maybe I'm wrong, I've been married for 13 years, so I clearly understand that I am often wrong, but thats how I see it.

No thanks, I’ll pass. The most important race in history due to the fact that occupying the White House we have a Marxist Muslim lover Kenyan trojan horse that wants to be a dictator, I’ll post elsewhere and do everything I can to get him out.
