Maher: Obama ‘the first black president of the racist states of America’
The Daily Caller ^ | April 28, 2012 | Jeff Poor

On his Friday program, HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher called President Barack Obama “the first black president of the racist states of America,” while criticizing a line regularly used by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney while on the campaign trail: “If people think there’s something wrong with being successful in America, then they’d better vote for the other guy.”

Romney’s statement, according to Maher, crosses a line.

“You’ve got to say this about Mitt, he’s a master politician,” Maher said. “I just heard him say this the other day — he said this: ‘If people think that there is something wrong with being successful, vote for the other guy.’ First of all, who thinks there is something wrong with being successful?”

Maher called Romney’s statement a straw man argument, but suggested Obama was successful too since he overcame racism to become the first black president of what he called “the racist states of America.”

Political comic Bill Maher has been hit with a $9-million lawsuit from a former flight attendant who claims he broke promises to marry her, shook her at a party and offended her with “degrading” racial comments.

Nancy Johnson, who also worked as a model under the name “Coco Johnsen,” accused Maher, the host of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” of fraud, battery and assault in her suit filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

“I was wondering how long it was going to take for people in the media to start labeling anyone opposed to Obama as Racist.”

It was baked in the cake from day 1. They weren’t going to say it while he was running, too many might have taken offense and not voted for him.

But it kicked in, as I expected it would, the first day of his administration.

Now they are trying to play the David Dinkins card. He was the first (and so far only) black mayor of NYC. He was a dreadful mayor. The summer before his run for re-election there were days of anti-Jewish riots in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

None other than then-president Bill Clinton came to NYC and told folks they’d be racists not to re-elect the failure David Dinkins.

Rudy Giuliani was subsequently chosen by the voters.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

I think any playing of the racist/black unrest card will help Obama about as much as it helped Dinkins. It amazes me the dems are too dim to realize that.

Name the other “Racist” President.

Seriously? Theodore Roosevelt? Woodrow Wilson? Andrew Jackson? Andrew Johnson? Thomas Jefferson? Abraham Lincoln? Richard Nixon? Harry Truman? Jimmy Carter? John Tyler? James K. Polk? Do we count Jefferson Davis?

I guess everybody is at least a little bit "racist" or at least ethnocentric. Everybody's made comments that somebody else might consider "racist." And people don't believe the same thing their whole lives long. Some outgrow their earlier views.

But really, we have had presidents who were a lot more into White supremacy than half-White Obama is into any sort of Black racism. I can't say for sure that all these guys were "racist" but you can find comments by them that people today would find objectionable, and some did clearly say that they believed their race was superior to another race.

Did you really think all of our presidents viewed Blacks or Indians or Asians or other minorities as equal to Northern European Whites? Wouldn't that have made Western expansion difficult and slavery impossible?

You don't have to believe that our presidents were horrible to recognize that they didn't see things as many people now do. You don't have to love Obama to recognize that he's not "our first racist president," and you don't have to hate America or think we're all racist to recognize that there was a lot of that stuff around in the past.

You can defend that lying, Marxist Racist all you want he is still the first overtly racist president we have ever had. The ones you cite were living in a totally different era. Done discussing with someone stuck on semantics.

It's not a question of defending him. It's about the facts.

"This is a country for white men, and by God, as long as I am President, it shall be a government for white men." -- Andrew Johnson

"Segregation is not a humiliation but a benefit, and ought to be so regarded by you gentlemen." -- Woodrow Wilson

The ones you cite were living in a totally different era.

That's what history is. It's about people living in different eras. Don't talk about them unless you've done the homework.

Done discussing with someone stuck on semantics.

Fine by me.
